Recurrent errors with Schannel /Isass.exe causing periodically freezing of the system

Since the upgrade of my laptop system to the current versionof windows I experience periodic freezing of my screen. Even Ctrl-Alt-Del wouldnot bring up Task Manager and if it comes up it would not respond. The only wayto get out of the freeze is to reboot the laptop.

I’m not an expert IT technician, just a home user, but Istarted to investigate what may cause it and found that a specific errormessage is always associated with this event. The error message is generated bySchannel and more specifically by processIDs that are associated with either “Isass.exe”,“KeyIso”, “SamSs”, or “VaultSvc”.

This error message is generated many times every day. Mostof the times it would not cause any problems but periodically it would disablemy laptop. The processID assigned to these processes changes after each reboot.Last night the processID for “Isass.exe” was 624 when the laptop froze andafter the reboot the processID of became 552, so I’m not sure that 624 wasassociated with Isass.exe, but google search found one report that this processID was associated with Isass.exe.

I did document these events with some snapshots that and can provide them upon request. They boil down to inability of Isass.exe and the windows credentialing / handshaking protocols to read some registry entries. I believe that after the upgrade somethingbecame scrambled in my network credentialing system registry.

FYI - I had 2 sessions on this issue with MS support chat. They ran SFC and checked my antivirus situation and all seems fine. They asked me to run a custom installation clean installation that keeps my file and apps from a USB device. I just did it and the problem remains, but since this installation kept my files and apps I believe that it did not change the registry, so the corruption is still the same.

I routinely check my system with the Tweeking.com utility and use 2 antiviruses Webroot SecureAnywhere and Malwarebytes to protect my system and all is fine so far. I also clean my registry routinely with several registry cleaners on a weekly basis.

Would greatly appreciate how to solve this issue.

    My system information is:

    Device name LAPTOP-DH1RO7RJ , Lenovo Z70

    Processor IntelRCoreTM i7-5500U CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40GHz

    Installed RAM 16.0GB

    Device ID DD9D77D6-2414-46B5-83C4-80C7479C21B1

    Product ID 00325-95850-34995-AAOEM

System type 64-bitoperating system, x64-based processor

    Edition Windows 10Home

    Version 20H2

    Installed on ‎3/‎13/‎2021

    OS build 19042.928

    Serial number PF0D21KV

    Experience WindowsFeature Experience

Finally, I am attaching here 4 images. The first three show the most recent error messages that I got after the clean installation, the ProcessID of the error and the processes that are associates with this ProcessID. The last image was obtained from Process Monitor and it shows the registry reading error that Isass.exe encounters.

PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?

I'm trying to open an Intel support ticket. I ran the SSU, and selected the option to submit to Intel. But when I click that it takes me to the site, and I created an account, but it does not appear to be submitting the SSU file.

It wants me to identify my component. So here's a couple options it shows:

If I select "I dont' know", it gives me this, which offers for me to run SSU and check the list:

Recurrent errors with Schannel /Isass.exe causing periodically freezing of the system [IMG]

So I tried Select from list, and get this:

Recurrent errors with Schannel /Isass.exe causing periodically freezing of the system [IMG]

If I select identify by part number of serial number, I get this:

Recurrent errors with Schannel /Isass.exe causing periodically freezing of the system [IMG]

I"m not sure how I should proceed.

  3. System Freeze after a random period of inactivity (supposedly)

    Hi all,

I didn't know where to put this thread, but because it has to do with system performance, I thought this might be the best place to post my issues with Win 10. Let me get straight to the point:
    • Up-to-date Windows 10 install (ver 1511 OS Build 10586.36)
    • I haven't tested it but it seems like when the computer becomes inactive after a period of time, the whole system freezes - the mouse isn't moving, the desktop remains static on the last windows that were there, the time remains static (it doesn't change), CTRL+ALT+DELETE doesn't work. Only solution seems to be to a hard reboot.
    • In all other aspects the computer works fine: no virus (as determined by up-to-date version of Free Avast AV), SSD runs super fast, computer reboots, shuts down and goes to sleep perfectly. It's just when I am working on the computer and get sidetracked and when the computer becomes inactive, the computer freezes.
System Specs (other relevant aspects of my system can be viewed on my system specs page):
    • Custom Built: E6700 non-OC
    • 4 GB DDR2 RAM
    • GTX 970 (up to date driver: 361.43)
Any thoughts? Is there some sort of log that I can call up to show what is causing this stall/freeze/hang-up?

    Thanks again!

PC Freezing for short periods -> DistributedCOM Error?

Just now getting to your last post.

Interestingly, main reason, I had booted my computer into the onboard diagnostics, and ran the memory test there. I let it run 10 times. Took all evening up to bedtime. It was successful with zero errors.

I'm running a Beta Log Collector. During the run, it had the comment "Failed to download autorunsc, skipping...". The resulting file is attached.

I just turned off "Disable automatic deletion of memory dumps when disk space is low". I don't know if that will allow the dmp files to be created or not. My C: drive has 380GB of space, so I wouldn't think they should be deleted.

Browsing around in the control panel, I found this:

Recurrent errors with Schannel /Isass.exe causing periodically freezing of the system [IMG]

That suggests to me I'm not getting restore points. However I find this on restore points:

Recurrent errors with Schannel /Isass.exe causing periodically freezing of the system [IMG]

Wondering if I should make any changes to the settings.

I will run the memory test you suggested today.
