Windows 10: Recurring Ethernet connection issues

Hi, I have been having constant, worsening problems with connecting to the internet on my windows 10 desktop pc. The issue is that, at seemingly random points multiple times a day my internet connection will become unavailable and not return for up to several hours. If I try to use the troubleshooter, I will get one of many different error messages. Sometimes I am told there is an issue with my IP address, sometimes my DNS configuration, sometimes my ethernet cable isn’t recognised and sometimes my computer is correctly configured but the device is not responding. I know that this is an issue with my device and not my network because nobody else in my household has this issue, and we have even changed providers since the problems started without the problem improving. I have changed ethernet cables multiple times and at one point even switched to a wifi adapter, none of which changed the problem. I check for viruses frequently and have never found anything. For unrelated reasons I have had to totally reset my PC, which also did not fix the issue. It used to be that sometimes switching off my adapter for a few seconds and turning it on again would work, but not anymore. Reseting my router doesn’t work either. I have 16 gigs of RAM, plenty of free memory, and an AMD FXtm-8300 Processor.

Ethernet connection issues

This issue might happen if the power saver option is set.

I suggest you to follow the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

• 
  Press Windows Key + X key and click on
  Device Manager.
  
• 
  Expand Network Adapters.
  
• 
  Right-click on the Network Adapter listed and click on
  Properties.
  
• 
  Click on Power Management tab.
  
• 
  Uncheck the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power box and click on
  Ok.
  
• 
  Restart the computer and check if the issue is resolved.

My reliable ethernet connection no longer works

Hi Marcia,

To better understand the query, please answer the following questions:

• After restarting is your computer in normal mode or not?
• Are you getting any error message?

I suggest you to reset the modem\ router and check if the Ethernet connection works or not.

If still the issue persist then I suggest you to follow the steps from the below article

Cell and Ethernet connection

2. Have you recently made any changes on the device prior to this issue?
   
3. What is the make and model number of the computer?
   
   
   
   
   
   You may try the below suggested steps to fix the issue.
   
   
   

1. Click on Start, Type in Control Panel and look for Network & Sharing Center.
   
2. Click on ‘Change adapter settings’ on the left pane.
   
3. You will be able to see the list of networks available.
   
4. Click on Advanced menu and select ‘Advanced Settings’.
   
5. You will be able to see the different types of connections under advanced settings Window.
   
6. Select Ethernet and use the arrows at the right side in the current Window in order to reorder the connections.
   
7. Click on OK and check the status of the issue.
