    Recurring Network Connection Failure

About two weeks ago, Windows 10 performed a big update on my desktop PC. Nothing seemed unusual when I shut down that night, or when I booted the next morning. However, after I did my next cold boot later that day, my network connection icon on my toolbar had a yellow triangle with exclamation point. I tried everything I could find on the Internet to resolve that issue, even reloading a three-month old boot image to my C:. None of those efforts had any affect. Then, I bought a new (fifty-foot) Ethernet cable and plugged it into my PC's second network port and my landlord's modem's second network port. That seemingly fixed the problem, for a week. It took about a week for Windows to update my Windows 10 (64-bit) OS, with the last big update about two days ago.

Yesterday, I was on a Skype call, when my PC abruptly shut off, black screen. My UPS also shut off, so I assumed it was a problem with my UPS (which has been acting oddly for a few weeks). On reboot, everything seemed normal, but I could not make Skype calls to regular phones. Apparently, Skype's servers were down last night worldwide. I could only make Skype-to-Skype calls. That issue finally cleared by 10:30 P.M.

This morning, I was able to access the Internet, my email (where I found an email from my provider informing me that my email had been hacked on September 1, and my account searched for bitcoin account info and hotel or airline reward points) and my bank account. On rebooting a few hours later, I again had the yellow triangle with exclamation point and my Skype Recorder was taking a long time to launch. I rebooted again, which got rid of the yellow triangle, but I still don't have Internet access. Oddly, Windows does not show that anything is wrong. Firefox tells me that the server is not found when I try to reach my email. Chrome seems to load normally, but it cannot find any sites. IE tells me that can't reach this page when I launch it. Windows 10 network troubleshooter says it does not detect any problems.
I built this PC five years ago, using a Gigabyte UD-3 motherboard, 8 GB RAM and upgrading from XP to 7 to 10.

EDIT: I just ran (an outdated version) of Malwarebytes. It found nine PUPs, which I told it to quarantine. On reboot, I have network access on my desktop, again.

    :)

  2. (KB3093266) - Error 0x80073712

I have had a recurring failure for the KB3093266 update over the past week. I also had a recurring failure for the previous cumulative update
(KB3081444) that this replaced over the past month which has become quite annoying.

I have tried both the sfc /scan now and the renaming software distribution/catroot2 fixes. I tried both these methods twice and it would download the update to about 5% before coming up with a failure.

    Thanks

Thanks, Ken, but my desktop doesn't use wireless. My laptop does, but it wasn't having any problems.
