Windows 10: Recycle icon does not change when the state changes

    Recycle icon does not change when the state changes


    When I delete a file, the Recycle Bin icon doesn't change to show it's got something in it, unless I put the mouse cursor over it. Same think when I empty the Recycle Bin, I have to put the mouse cursor over the Recycle Bin for the trash icon is removed.This happens on my personal Windows 10 machine as well as my work Windows 10 machine.BTW, it started doing this after my last Windows update.

    Cannot change desktop icon

    Sometimes a desktop icon changes from what it was to a plain white folder. Might be something I did but not sure what.

    To change it to the icon I want, I go:
    1. Rt-click icon > Properties > Change icon
    2. I select the icon I want from the thumbnails of icons.
    3. Click OK
    4. Click Apply
    But the icon does not change. It just stays looking like a white folder.
    HOWEVER, if I pin the icon to the taskbar, the icon on the taskbar does look like the icon I selected in step-2. So the change is registered with Win10 but the icon on the desktop just doesn't change.

    Any ideas on how to fix this?

    How to change the stock icon for the Recycle Bin

    Hi,
    I did the change as explained in the tutorial, all worked perfect. But when I move a file to recycle bin it still shows empty icon! if I log out or reboot, then it shows the recycle bin as full correctly. anyone know if there is a solution to fix this?!

    Edit: Finally no need to logout or restart, but I need to refresh (F5) on desktop for the change to show each time!
