  1. Redirecting a folder path to another drive?

Keeping the problem fairly short and sweet:

I would like to be able to redirect a folder on my Hard Disk E: Drive to my Solid State C: Drive so that when programs try to access within that folder path, they're instead using the faster C: drive.

For, example, if it tries to read or write to E:/OriginalFolderPath/Example/File.txt, it gets redirected to C:/PossiblyDifferentFolderPath/Example/File.txt.

Or indeed, if it tries to access E:/OriginalFolderPath/AnotherExample/File2.wav, it instead gets redirected to C:/PossiblyDifferentFolderPath/AnotherExample/File2.wav.

As far as a longer explanation, there's a part of the data library for one of my programs that needs to be loaded pretty much every time I use it, but it's fairly large, and thus quite slow on an HDD. Unfortunately, my SSD is not nearly large enough for me to move my entire data library to that drive, but if I could move the most commonly used part of the libraries and still have programs be able to access it via the original paths, this would still massively cut down on my load times.

In case anyone suggests it: Yes, the program itself does support having libraries in multiple places, but unfortunately the content updater for the program does not, so any updates would end up installed in the wrong place and cause conflicts. If possible, the above solution is much more practical for me.

    Is this possible?

    :)

  2. Paths to profile folders subject to folder redirection

On Windows 7, profile folders that have been redirected can be accessed with a local path such as "%USERPROFILE%\Pictures" etc.; the Pictures 'folder' in the profile folder behaves as a sort of junction point.

However, on Windows 10, none of the profile folders appear in the %USERPROFILE% folder, regardless of whether they are subject to redirection. Is there a defined path that these folders can be (reliably) accessed via? Several applications I have want a
folder path to these profile folders, and specifying the actual storage location is rather inconvenient when that location may be subject to future change.

    Thanks

  3. Paths to profile folders subject to folder redirection

Sayan, thanks for your reply, but what you state is only true if the profile folders Pictures, Documents, etc, have not been redirected out of the profile folder.

In a user profile with folder redirection of these folders, the %USERPROFILE% folder does NOT contain folders / junctions for the redirected folders on a Win10 system. (Win7 systems DO have junctions in the %USERPROFILE% folder for these redirected folders.)

  4. Redirecting a folder path to another drive?

Redirected my Documents folder to root of a hard drive, can't revert

    Hello,

In an effort to save the space on my SSD, I started redirecting the "This PC" folders to equivalent spots on my Hard Drive. In the process, I accidentally redirected the Documents folder to the root of the hard drive. I am so far unable to revert this or
change it to the proper spot on that hard drive. Any suggestions on how to fix this?
