Is there a way to reduce the greediness of Win10 caching? This is for a usecase, when Win10 is running inside of a VM enterprise VM solution at a customer site, where I have no insight on how the offloading of vRAM to SSD/disk is configured, but it is clearly happening, which I notice, when my Win10 RAM utilization gets above 11.5 GB out of the 16 GB vRAM available on the Win10 VM, and things start being really very slow, while Win10 cache is happily eating 4-5 GB out of the 11.5 GB and probably thinking, it is doing a "good thing".It is entirely counter-productive for Windows to be using mul

  2. Win10 Nov updates one VM and not the other

I have two VMs running Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

    • One was upgraded to public Win10 from 8.1 - call this one Host A
    • One was upgraded to public Win10 from Win 10 Insider Build using the public ISO - call this one Host B
Fired up Host A the other day and the November Win 10 Pro update was there and then spent the rest of the evening doing its thing...eventually finished and is all now happy running the latest update.

So logic suggests that when I fire up Host B, the same update process should kick off and a few hours later
Host B is running the November Win 10 Pro update as well.

But...this was not the case...the November Win 10 Pro update does not appear on the list of updates to be installed on
Host B. Left the VM running overnight in case it would try later....but nothing. "Check for updates" does show the update.

"Defer Upgrades" is not checked, updates are set to "Automatic (recommended)", and "View Update History" just shows Windows Defender updates.

So bit at a loss to understand why the November update is not showing up for
    Host B!

So if anyone has a suggestion how I can get the November update on Host B, please let me know?

    Thanks

    Peter

Running your Browser in a VM?

    • Install VMware Player or Virtualbox, VMware being faster in my experience
    • Create a VM with sufficent RAM HD and all CPU cores
    • Install Ubuntu/Linux Mint/Debian or some lightweight distro with Xcfe or LXDE
    • Install VMware/Virtualbox tools
    • Almost any distro comes with Firefox
    • Install Ublock Origin/Noscript/Ghostery
    • Disable cookies with a whitelist/use private browsing.
In my experience, running a browser through a VM can slow down scrolling smoothness, video playback and increase ping delay
