Reflect Rescue Media USB Not Booting

Made Reflect (free) USB rescue Media as per the instructions. Process finished successfully. USB plugged into a USB slot on the back of the machine.

My computer MoBo Asus M4A88T-M (purchased 2011), non UEFI. BIOS set to "removable media" 1st choice boot and HDD 2nd choice. This MoBo has splash screen startup selection "F8 Boot Menu". Selecting F8 shows option of booting from the Reflect USB.
Selected the Reflect USB. Next screen shows; "Remove Disk or other Media" and "Press any key to restart" Did not remove anything, pressed a key and machine reboots into my win 10 HDD.

    Questions;
1-why will the reflect USB not boot to the rescue media?
    2-why would i remove anything?
3-do I really need the Reflect rescue USB?

    Thanks
    Tom

added edit - I have Reflect ver 7.1.2646 and I have made a new image of disk on an external HDD

    :)

Blue Screen Error 'PC/device needs to be repaired file:/BCD error code:0xc000000d'

    Brittany,

I just fixed an error like that on a Dell Inspiron yesterday. The best and easiest tool for fixing this is to use Macrium Reflect's Rescue Media. It has a "Fix Windows Boot Problems" option. This is what you have to do:

    1. Download the "free" version of Macrium Reflect from here:

    Download Macrium Reflect Free

    2. Install it on a working computer and create the Rescue Media (Create Rescue Media). Make sure you set it to use
Windows PE version 10. If it has not picked that, click the "Change PE Version" and select PE version 10. You can create the Rescue Media on either a CD or a USB Flash drive although a USB Flash drive would be better and you
only need a minimum of a 1GB drive.

    3. Once the Rescue Media is created, you need to start your problem laptop with the Rescue Media connected to it and change where you are booting from. As soon as you press the power button on the laptop, continually press the "F12" key.
This will allow you to access the Boot Options screen to modify from where your laptop will boot. It should eventually give you a list of devices to boot from. Select the USB Flash drive which contains the Rescue Media. Use the keyboard arrow keys to get to
the correct line and then {Enter} to select it. Once selected, it should then boot into Macrium Reflect running off the USB drive.

    4. Follow the instructions on this page (How to fix Windows Boot problems) to perform the repair.

    Good luck,

    JohnD

  3. WIN 10 Recovery

    Hi Denis,

have used the recommended Macrium Reflect Free to successfully create a rescue environment and also a system image each on a separate USB-Stick.

Have also tested booting from the Rescue stick. It works!

The system image itself is not bootable, because I unfortunately overlooked the item "Other Tasks" which as I noticed later offers the possibility of "Add a boot menue option to start the Reflect recovery environment".

But thanks for aa the help!

Reflect Rescue Media USB Not Booting

In the BIOS, there's should be BOOT priority and BOOT order. Did you set both to point to the Removable & Reflect USB ?
In addition, rebuild the Rescue disk, make sure you uncheck the option pointed by the arrow in the screen shot:

Rescue disk is needed to restore the backup image when needed.

Yes Bios is set to boot 1st from USB. Yes on selecting F8 and getting boot menu USB was selected.
The box and option you indicate in your pic is graded out unable to select.

Open Disk Management & Double check if the USB is formatted with FAT32 and set to "Active".

Try using a different PE version for the rescue media. I made a Reflect recovery drive using PE 10 rescue media on a DVD for an old PC but this wouldn't boot. I then made another rescue DVD using PE 3.1 and that booted and worked fine. It seems is the PE type you need to use may depend on the age of the PC?

  13. Reflect Rescue Media USB Not Booting

    RolandJS: You're welcome.

    Tom: Glad to help you.

topgundcp: this is not the same problem exactly (cannot create usb stick vs. non-bootable one) but yes, solution is similar.
