Windows 10: Refurbished HP Stream PIN + Internet Issue

Hi there,


I just got a factory reconditioned HP Stream laptop, set it up with Microsoft account and login PIN, wifi, etc. All worked great during setup. I shut it down for the night and the next day when i tried to get on the computer, when I try to input the PIN it says "Your device is offline. Try a different sign-in method." It shows no other method and clicking "I forgot my PIN" just kicks me back to the pre-login screen.


1 I thought the PIN was supposed to work offline. 2 I can't get online because the internet globe button only shows an option for airplane mode. Turning that off and on does nothing, does not show the several wifi networks available to my other devices. Restarting the laptop hasn't worked. USB tethering for internet from my phone hasn't worked - the laptop doesn't register anything.


Can I make this work, or did I get a lemon?

Win10/HP Pavillion - PIN "unavailable"

Using Win10 on an HP Pavillion Gaming Laptop

PIN went away. Now when I go into create a PIN I get "Something went wrong. Try again later". The step prior is: Start.>Settings>Accounts>Sign in Options>Windows Hello PIN and it reads "This options is currently unavailable - click to learn more". I
followed the steps suggested, but they don't work

Set Internet Explorer as default browser

I suggest you to set Internet Explorer as default web browser and restart the computer and see if it helps.

Disable Proxy

Sometimes using proxy to connect to the internet may cause issues while connecting to the network.

Follow the steps below to disable proxy:

• Press “Windows Key” + “R”.
• Type “inetcpl.cpl”.
• Go to Connection.
• Click on LAN Settings.
• Check the box which says Automatically detect settings.
• Uncheck the box under Proxy server.

Run Internet Connection Troubleshooter

Though you are able to use internet, there could be some problems or some settings which could have stopped Windows services to connect to the internet.

I suggest you to run the Internet connection troubleshooter to fix such issues, follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + R
• Type Control
• Click on Troubleshooting
• Click on Connect to the internet
• Click on Next and follow the On-screen instructions
