    Reg key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pngfile\shell missing OPEN sub key for many systems

    Hi,

    I am trying to use the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pngfile\shell\open to fetch the command to open PNG files, however I have see that many systems do not have the OPEN sub key and faile to open any application.

    Could you tell me how can I get this entry for all systems? Is there a fix already available for this case? I am using all WIN10 systems for this.

    Can't Browse Hidden Photos on Windows 10

    I added these keys to the register with regedit and it worked ^^

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jpegfile\shell\open\DropTarget]

    "Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pngfile\shell\open\DropTarget]

    "Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}"

    Guess you'd have to add it for bmp, etc.

    Oh and spread the words ! I might have seen this problem too many times now.

    missing open cmd here after latest windows 10 update

    OK, try clearing any changes already made to these keys in your registry

    Same procedure as explained above - add this to a text file and change the extension

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell\cmdprompt]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shell\cmdprompt]

    [-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell\cmdprompt]

    Then try the original Reg file again . . .

    Reg key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pngfile\shell missing OPEN sub key for many systems

    Outlook 2010 and Windows 10

    I tried both suggested registry edits in the linked KB article and did not like the results, The "iexplore" command opens the link in a new window, and the "cmd" command can cut off the link leaving a dead page, or if it works, has a flashing command window
    for an instant while the page loads up.

    I found that htmlfile's "open" key's menu text is "Open in Same Window", so I experimented: I exported the "open" key, and edited the reg file in notepad to point the key path to opennew, like this:

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open]

    becomes

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\open\command]

    becomes

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\htmlfile\shell\opennew\command]

    I saved and re-imported the reg file. Outlook now opens the full link in a new tab without any flashing cmd windows. (Time will tell if this works in the long run, I just upgraded to 10 yesterday...)
