Windows 10: Region locked code even though both me and recipient are in the same region?

I have recently purchased a gift code for sea of thieves for my friend. Upon my friend receiving the code it would not allow him to redeem it saying that the code was in a different region. Both of us live in Ireland and i purchased it in Ireland. One thing to note was that even though we live in Ireland, both of our windows stores are in the UK for some reason by default. When i was ordering it forced me to put in a UK address for the billing and I wasn't aware that windows even had a region setting so I just put in my own Irish address and left the country setting on UK. Is there any way that my friend can still redeem the code somehow, or I can get a refund as it is not letting me request a refund under order history.

Region Code locked

The DVD region code is not a part of the Windows System, it is part of the firmware of your DVD drive.

Normally you can change it 5 times before it locks, so you have to be careful when you change it the last time to lock it onto you actual region code.

However there is free software available on the web which will fool the region code of your DVD drive, search for 'How to make my DVD Drive Region Free'

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

 

Removing DVD region lock

take a look at AnyDVD by Slysoft (think it used to be called DVDFab decrypter). My guess is that most decryption software will handle region locks but I haven't run into that problem in a very long time.
