Yes, Microsoft. Wake Up! This is a major problem with the registry crashing. I have done everything suggested in this forum, sfc /scannow, virus scan (Defender, Malwarebytes, Adaware etc), error scanning of my SSD and now I'm sure the problem is in Windows 10. Btw, I have the latest updates as of May 10 2016.

I have always considered the registry architecture as a stupid solution, error prone and slow to do searches. Now it's here so MS should really make sure this beast is working properly. It's a shame this registry problem has been around for many month now. This is an essential component so it's really bad when this is unstable. Put some clever people to investigate what the problem is. Microsoft is big enough to set aside people to fix this immediately.

For the longest time, this registry crashing error had been fixed with subsequent updates. However with the update yesterday, it is back again !

You do have choices thou. If you have a older version of regedit from a image backup, that was working fine, use that one and overwrite your existing version.
Another choice, is too use a good 3rd party registry program. I have not used Windows regedit in years. I bought Registry Workshop years ago, and still works VERY well for me.

Actually some 3rd party registry editors are better than the Windows default editor. *Smile

    Amazing(ly bad work from Microsoft).
This thread was starded October 31 and now it's May 18, the following year, and Microsoft hasn't done anything substantial about this.

I visited their website in order to just report a bug (as I suppose others has aswell) but found out that it isn't really that easy. *Sad So I just have to post here instead, vent some of my frustration and just hope that someone (anyone) from or associated with Microsoft reads here from time to time.

This bug should be very easy to fix (I suppose?) but today I stumbled upon it myself, did some research and saw this thread (and others informing about the same registry bug). On the Microsoft community forums I also found that this problem probably is connected to some flaw in the MS Store (app?). So now I'm using (or actually is kind of forced to use) RegScanner 2.16 from NirSoft instead, when needed but it actually works, and hope and just hope (!) that Microsoft will solve it in an update... sooner rather than later!

Well. I guess we just have to see about that... I mean, it's been this way since at least Oct 31, so.....*Think

    Edit:
But who knows? Perhaps it'll be solved with the Anniversary Update, this coming summer. *really

    Registry Editor crashing

I tried the attached version of regedit.exe (File version 10.0.10240.16384) on Windows Version 10.0.10586 and got this error:

This version of C:\Windows\regedit.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information and then contact the software publisher.

...which is a real shame because all the other fixes I've found involve deleting registry keys; they are there for a reason right?
Is there some other detail I am missing?

I was just trying to use Regedit to sort out some 10016 errors which appear in Event Viewer to find Regedit crashes when searching. It's amazing MS with all their resources have broken this essential utility which used to work just fine.

Use a Good 3rd Party Registry program, I haven't used Windows regedit in years. Besides some of them are 100% better and more options.

I've always used Regedit since it always worked until Windows 10! Which free registry editor do you recommend for compatibility with Windows 10?

The one I use is not free, its Registry Workshop. Bought it at least 6 years ago. Runs fine under windows 10.
Here is a link to their site, if you want to try it.
