Registry Key to my desktop photo?

I have tried everything I can think of to get my desktop to shuffle through a folder of pictures, including a 3rd party app. At the moment I am just trying to get rid of one photo that keeps coming back to the desktop and it isn't in any of the Windows/Web folder and not in any of my folders. It does this whether I am on Picture or Slideshow in Personalization options. Is there a way for me to locate where this desktop photo is? I have read that this part of Windows 10 is bugged, and have tried a workaround to use gpedit.msc to disallow desktop background changes, but its setting is irrelevant for my current particular problem. I am starting to think I need to in-place reinstall of Windows to simply get it to show the Picture I choose.

    I'm using Windows 10 v2004 (7/15/2020), OS Build 19041.450.

    :)

  2. Why does the registry need to be edited to add a Homegroup Icon to the desktop?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community. Let me assist you.

Provide us with the below details for better clarity on the issue.

    • Did you try to create the shortcut on the desktop?
    • What happens when you try to create the shortcut?

If you are referring to create a shortcut on the desktop then please follow the steps given here to create the short cut of Home group on your desktop.

    • Press Windows Key + X and select
      Control Panel
      .
    • Go to Network and Internet.
    • Right Click on Home group and select Pin to Start.
    • Close the window and Click on Start icon.
    • Click, Drag and Drop the Home group icon to an empty desktop area.
    • Home group desktop shortcut is now created.

If the add a Home group Icon to the desktop does not work while trying the normal steps then you can go with the registry editor steps. The registry editor step is not the only step for adding a Home group Icon to the desktop.

Please avoid using Registry editor until it’s really necessary. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. For added protection, always back up the registry before you modify it.

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done Registry Key to my desktop photo? :) I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

Registry Key to my desktop photo?

Can NOT remove ATITool registry key!

It's low priority to stop ATITool from making undeletable class keys in the reigstry?

That's about one rung above spyware.

What bothers me most is that I'm pretty sure you can't protect a registry key by any simple means, something must still be running somewhat that is protecting that key. Even after I manually removed the service. That's what bothers me.
