Regular wifi not showing up if windows update is pending

    Hi,

I've noticed a strange issue with my laptop for quite some time now. Whenever there is a Windows 10 update available, my wifi adapter stops connecting to my home wifi, and in fact stops showing it in the list of wifi networks. All nearby wifi networks are visible, so the adapter itself appears to be working - in fact, it connects to my mobile hotspot easily. Also, the home wifi is very much up because all other devices including other laptops and phones continue to see the home wifi network and connect to it.

I've tried most of the standard solutions already - updating wifi drivers, resetting the router, restarting the wifi adapter itself, and so on. Nothing worked.

The only way I've been able to resolve this issue is by running Windows update, after which the problem "magically" goes away. It's almost as if Windows 10 has a "switch" to stop the wifi from connecting the the preferred network till the update is completed. If this is the case, it's incredibly poor design from Microsoft because switching off the wifi prevents the update itself from happening, trapping the user completely. Therefore I have no option but to either connect the LAN cable, or temporarily use a different wifi network, to run the update.

    Very frustrating indeed.

    :)

  2. wifi icon not showing in notification center

    Hello Venkatesh,

We realize the inconvenience you are experiencing with Wi-Fi icon not showing up in taskbar. We will certainly help you.

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Regular wifi not showing up if windows update is pending :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.

Windows 7 virtual wifi authentication mode

    Hello.

Just a quick question to whoever is using windows 7 virtual wifi capability - when you type in "netsh wlan show hostednetwork", cmd window displays a list of settings for your hosted virtual wifi.

I was wondering, is there a way to change authentication method from WPA2-Personal to simple WEP ?

    Cheers.
