Windows 10: Reinstall USB 2 Drivers

Following an update just prior to 20 04 I lost the ability to use my web cam. I got the error "USB device not recognized". Following some advice I found here for a similar error with a USB drive I used Device Manager to Uninstall the USB Hubs. I expected Windows to reinstall after a reboot. This did not happen. The entry for the USB hubs is no longer showing in Device Manager. The driver files usbccgp.sys etc. and the INF file usb.inf are all still present MSinfo lists the drivers but shows them all stopped. If I execute usb.inf it runs without error but does not restart the drivers. The motherboard is an ASUS P8P67 with an Intel i7 CPU. The USB 2 hardware is Intel. Fortunately the separate USB 3 system is still working so I have control of the PC. Maybe I am not executing the usb.inf file with the correct privileges. Help appreciated.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your device. Refer these steps:

  Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.

  Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
  
• 
  Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.

  Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter.
  

Method 2: I suggest you to update the USB Drivers.

Try updating the latest USB devices from the manufacturer's website and check if the issue persists.

Follow the steps to update the USB drivers:

a. Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

b. Expand the USB driver.

c. Right-click on the USB and click on Update driver software.

d. Restart the computer and check.

USB composite device "driver error"

Can you send us a screenshot of the error message? We suggest uninstalling and re-installing USB drivers and check if the issue persists. To do that, please follow these steps:

• Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
  
• Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Right-click on the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click on
  Uninstall to remove it.
• Repeat these steps for the entire USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
• Restart the computer. Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
