I am reinstalling Windows 10 on an SSD.

I read that performing a full format on a SSD is not good for it. I would prefer to use a quick format.

Will a Quick Format be sufficient enough to remove a virus?

    :)

Formating only C Drive & not the recovery drive.

What virus do you have? How do you know you have it? What anti-virus program do you run? Why not try removing the virus with your anti-virus program, instead of formatting?

Assuming that your intent is to format *and* reinstall, it is not necessary to format it first. Just follow the manufacturer's instruction to do a clean reinstallation from the recovery drive and it will begin by formatting the C: drive for you.

It is my mother's computer. She is 86 years old and was taken advantage of by hackers. She received a message on her computer that it has a virus and to call a phone number. She called the number and somehow they installed a program called LogMeIn that gave them remote access. I do not know if that is the extent of what they did.

  6. Yes, in that case quick format will do, since who knows, what they did, but they could not even access the computer without her help, they had to use a software for the remote support, she was just unlucky, they stumbled upon her.

Maybe it would be better to let her use only a standard account, which would prevent her from admin tasks, like installing. You could actually use a software like LogMeIn or Teamviewer in case, she will need to do something.

    Thank you for the advice.

They actually asked her for her credit card number which she gave and charged her $299. Fortunately she was able to get the money back.

I am still confused how they were able to access her computer. My mother said that she did not even do anything. They were even able to print an invoice for their "services" on her printer. It is possible she left something out.

I will set up a standard account. That is great advice and wish I thought about that a long time ago.
