Regarding bitlocker encryption. Im guessing that a couple of years ago, i had my system.reinstalled and bought software and had it installed online, and remotely and yesterday, after clearing the C drive, found the D drive where ALL my work is has a bitlocker lock. The only time my computer is connected to the internet.is during software installation. Can i find the occassion when the reinstallation hapoened and the address of the installer to get the key by checking back through my internet history?

Encrypted files after reinstaling system won't open

Hi Filip,

To better assist you, can you clarify the following:

• What do you mean by reinstalled the whole system? Does it mean that you have a new and fresh Windows 10?
• What do you mean by the old one? Did you reinstall with out loosing the files that you encrypted?
• What do you mean by new system? Did you partition your hard drive into two parts and you call them C: (new) D: (old)?
• Where is the location of the encrypted file?
• Any back up for this before doing a re install?

Encrypting the Windows System Disk - good idea or not?

Hi folks!

Simple question really.

Currently re-building my desktop PC and aiming for

Windows 10 Pro (64-bit) dual-booting with Linux Mint on a 240GB SSD.

A separate 5TB hard disk for data storage.

Not sure about how to set this up - partitioned as two separate drives one for Windows documents (and encrypted) and one for Linux documents (not sure whether to encrypt this or not). Any advice/suggestions welcome on this.

A third laptop hard disk for data security (copying any docs/files etc from the Windows data drive only).

Question is this.

Should the bootable system disk containing Windows 10 Pro be encrypted or not? If yes - can you suggest a suitable (& free) encryption solution.

Should the Linux partition also be encrypted - is it necessary and/or will it cause any conflict being dual-booted with Windows?

How to delete D drive encrypted by Bitlocker without password or recovery key?

There's a Dell PC running Windows 10 in my office that a previous user had that they created an encrypted D drive with Bitlocker. The guy has left and nobody has proper contact with them.

I don't care about the data on the D drive I just want to delete the drive off the PC. Steps I have already taken are:

• Reinstall Windows
  
• Reset the PC with the options "Remove everything" and "Only drives where windows is installed"
  

When I chose the option "All drives" I get an error saying "There was a problem resetting your PC".

Can anyone provide instructions on how to delete the D drive encrypted with Bitlocker?
