Windows 10: reinstalling Win10 x32 to x64

When I purchased an old desktop years ago, it had win7 pro x32. When I went thorough the update, I then got win10 x32. There's no reason that I know of that this machine couldn't be running the x64 version. And given it's old, I would prefer that so I can recognize more memory and give it yet another few more years of service.Is my windows license is locking me into the x32 version only or does my "Pro" license allow for both x32 or x64? I'm also guessing I'm gong to have to do a complete reinstall as I've never seen x32 to x64 updates? I'm guessing I'm going to put a brand new

Can I switch from Win8 x32 to Win10 x64?


I know I can't go from x32 to x64 without a doing a clean install. I'm just wondering if I need to do that now (Win8 x32 to Win8 x64) before the Win10 upgrade comes.

However if I can get the ISO Win10 x64 I'll just wait and do the clean install just one time. I have the WIN8 disks (and install codes). I'm pretty sure the Win8 program came with both a x32 and x64 disk when I bought it.

I have 4GB installed now and I have extra RAM (another 4 GB) from a disassembled machine (both DDR3 (same specs but different brands).

So upgrade (clean install) to Win 8 x64 now - or get Win10 x64 (somehow) and then do clean install?

If I do the Win8 x64 now, Win10 will auto-download/install Win10 x64.
But if I wait too long and then Win10 x32 downloads on my Win8 machine, am I screwed?
