  1. Reinstalling Windows after I upgraded my Mainboard and Harddrive

    Hello,

    My question is the following.

I want to upgrade the Harddrive, Mainboard, RAM and CPU on my Desktop computer.

Now i realized that i probably have to reinstall Windows 10 and activate it.

The reason i upgrade my computer is, because its really old and had Windows 7 when i got it.

So it means i never had an Windows 10 activation key.

Can i activate Win 10 with my Win 7 code?

If not what i guess can i copy my current Harddrive and the operating system so I dont have to activate win again?

Or is it possible to still upgrad Win 7 for free to Win 10?

OOR is there another option I havent seen yet? like that I first install Win 10 new on my computer and just change my Harddrive so i can use a digital license safed on the Mainboard if thats even a thing that exists

    Thanks for your help.

If you need any specs what i dont assume just ask for it.

    :)

    upgrading mainboard and CPU

This question is probably asked before, but I cannot find it.

I want to upgrade the mainboard and CPU and wonder if I can activate the Windows 10, which I used with the old mainboard, on the new mainboard/CPU?

I should add that the the Windows 10 running on the old motherboard was a free upgrade from a retail Windows 7 Home Premium. I still have the original Win 7 DVD with the product key.

    Best gaming harddrive Sugestion ???

Seagate states on their 750gb,32mb cache harddrive that the best application is video surveillance.(liquor stores, how very sad and completly overpriced for the amount of problems they have).Yet Passmark lists this near the top of their harddrive page.Any one have a suggestion for something that will last.(maybe samsung???)
Also I was considering a Raidmax hybrid 2 sli 630w powersupply.Any thoughts on Raidmax??

    What kind of quad.

I suspect you are at "the edge" of the power rating for the mainboard. Perhaps Q6600 wasnt listed due to TWO versions, C3 stepping at 105W and G0 stepping at 95W. Furthermore, if you OC the G0 Q6600 then it will use more than 95W. Since Q9300 is on a 1333 buss, then perhaps the BIOS doesnt give you scope to OC it, keeping it well withing the 95W envelope.

My suggestion is, if the mainboard is important to you and you dont want to blow the power regulators or caps, to NOT OC the Q6600. Take the thing out of design spec (by OC'ing it) and you may very well rapidly reduce the half-life of your board.

Also, as erocker suggests, there are 65W quads out now. I think those are better suited to this mainboard.

    Good luck.
