  1. Reinstalling windows on a different drive in an OEM laptop

Hi, I used to own a laptop but recently bought a pc because my laptop broke. I am planning on using the m2 ssd from my old laptop into my pc. Since the windows os is located in the m2 ssd, is it possible for me to use another ssd later on and reinstall windows with license on the laptop ? Because im thinking of repairing the laptop later in the future after ive saved enough money to use it for work stuffs. I read online that windows on OEM laptop are bind to its motherboard. I am wondering if i can use another ssd while still retain the windows license.

    :)

Why are there 2 different keys for Windows 10 on OEM Laptop?

    Hi,

    Just to answer your questions..

    1. Was the OS installed already when you purchased the PC or were you given a key &/or DVD with the OS?
OS was pre-installed OEM Windows 10 Pro. The SLP key is already there in BIOS and as I did a clean install using Windows 10 ISO downloaded using Windows Media Creation Tool, the installer automatically picked it from the SLP and
installed Windows 10 Pro on to it and activated it. I never had to enter any key anywhere due to OEM system

    1. Was the PC purchased from a retail store or a PC repair/specialist?
It's an Acer B117 Laptop purchased in retail from Amazon.com

    1. As stated usually PCs arrive with Home installed rather than Pro.
Yes, however there are a handful of Laptops that do ship with Windows 10 Pro OEM for a bit higher price that those with Home

    1. As long as the OS activated successfully then you should be OK.
I agree, nothing is broken, so there's nothing to fix. I have a genuine Windows 10 Pro OEM Licences. I was just curious about the reason for 2 different keys. The knowledge I had so far was that your Windows 10 key resides
in BIOS for OEM. So I thought it must be same as what third party tools would return as your Windows 10 Key, after its activation, but it is different from what's there in BIOS.

    Thanks for your support.

  3. Reinstall Windows 10 to new hard drive

    Hi Rodolpho,

We want to know about the issue you're having with your recovery drive. Please answer the questions below:

    • Are you trying to reinstall Windows 8 or Windows 10?
    • If you already upgraded to Windows 10, were you able to create a new copy of the recovery drive?

We suggest creating a new copy of the recovery drive and then follow the steps provided by Andre Da Costa above this thread.

Update us with the outcome so we can assist you further.

  4. Reinstalling windows on a different drive in an OEM laptop

    Reinstall on Sony Vaio Laptop

Hi, i have a sony Vaio laptop that is only 2 years old. Just recently it crashed. It was still under warranty so we sent it in and got a brand new hard drive. We also recieved the windows reinstall disk, though it was XP professional instead of XP home. So when you insert the disk it says wrong xp version (in more words).

Well i have the OEM windows XP disk and so i though id pop it in and install it that way. But for some reason it keeps shutting down during the load of the disk. (as in a get the blue screen with windows setup at the top and it starts loading files, then when its done and should go on to selecting what i want to do, it just shuts down)

I called sony and they said they have a security feature installed so you cant use any disk but theirs, AND they are not willing to send us the correct reinstall disk....

Does anyone out there know how i might get past this? Or have any suggestions as to what i should do?

    Thanks
