  1. Reliability monitor shows "Windows was not properly shut down" error consistently

I get this error often and I was wondering if this is something I should be worried about. Also, what could be causing this error and how can I try to resolve it? Even though this error shows up in the reliability monitor often, I haven't seen my Windows shut down on its own, it only turns off when I turn it off from the Start panel or when updates restart the pc.

    :)

Reliability Monitor shows constant Windows crashes

Thanks. The sfc /scannow command gives a clean bill of health. No integrity violations or something like that. I suspect there is an errant driver not shutting down. Even if I log off before shutting down, I still get the note about not shutting down properly in Reliability Monitor.

As far as the PC is concerned, it seems happy. On the next restart I get no error messages. It is only in Reliability Monitor that this shows.

  3. Reliability monitor reports computer shut down improperly every day even though it's apparently fine

Just seen on Reliability Monitor that I have a critical event every day when I use 'Shut Down'. The PC shuts down properly with no errors, and boots into Windows with no errors, but Reliability Monitor says "Critical event: Windows was not shut down properly."

    What's going on?

    Cortana Error in Reliability Monitor

    Hi,

I appreciate you for trying some steps in order to get the issue fixed.

If you don't find any error with Cortana, and the issue is only with reliability monitor projecting an error with Cortana. I would then request you to perform DISM and check if the issue is removed.

    • Press Windows key, and type CMD in search. Right click on CMD and click on Run as administrator.

      • In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:

      • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

    • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

    • Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.

Please revert if you face any issues with reliability monitor.
