Reliability of the controller connected through RemoteFX USB of Remote Desktop Connection...

My job is to test games for a company. We are able to work remotely from home using the integrated Remote Desktop Connection provided by Microsoft. That's the setup, nothing I can do about it. I own 2 controllers at home PS4 and a XB1.

Now... As long as all I did was to plugin in the controller in my home PC which is a fresh windows install with absolutely nothing else than a VPC client on it and Windows popped out with "HEY!!! YOUR DEVICE WORKS PROPERLY". It's obvious that something is at fault when using it through Remote Desktop Connection.

I have also made all the necessary setup in order for the RemoteFX USB to work and it does. Partially...

After extensive testing and searching on the internet I have concluded that:

    1. XB1 Controller ORIGINAL wireless dongle does not pass information through RDP < This is somewhat mind-blowing their own device does not work as expected?
    2. XB1 Controller crashes the HOST PC when connecting it through RDP < Updating drivers and every advice found on the internet didn't work.
    3. The Windows Store RDC10 app doesn't even care about the controllers connected through USB < but the old program that comes with windows works.
    4. The Sony PS4 controller when connected through USB works right out of the box awkward right? for some time until it decide it doesn't want to connect to the remote anymore

I get it when something might not work right out of the box like the wireless dongle for XB1 controller. Maybe the issue was never raised so there wasn't any real incentive to develop a sure way.

This isn't a rant... Windows 10 is absolutely amazing and fast. Developers have made a great piece of software. However Given the ongoing pandemic a lot of people are working from home. Some of them working as game testers and need to use a controller over Remote Desktop. It's a job, not playing for fun. I think that there are some issues of RemoteFX USB devices and they should be addressed with a somewhat high priority.

    :)

    Remote Desktop Connection problems

Have you tried Remote Desktop Connection, to connect from your Windows 10 laptop to your Windows 7 desktop? Try it first, post back and tell how it went.

Some additional help because you mentioned you are a remote newbie *Wink. The windows 7 related tutorials from our sister site the Seven Forums:

    1. On Windows 7 desktop, set network location to either Home or Work (I recommend Work):
    2. On Windows 7 desktop, allow incoming remote connections:
    3. On Windows 7 desktop, find out its IP address:
    4. On Windows 10 laptop, start the Remote Desktop application and connect to the Windows 7 desktop using the IP address from step 3 above (see Part Three in the tutorial):
Try the above, post back how it went.

    help to remote connect

No need to setup a permanent remote connection for FB add-on's. I'd suggest Team Viewer. It's free and will allow you to access his pc safely and take control.

    remote desktop connection

You will need to analyse the various stages that form part of the remote desktop connection. This will require some time and patience.

A remote desktop connection consists of these components:

    • A host (which must run Windows Professional). This is the machine that you wish to control.
    • A client (which can run any version of Windows). This is the machine that you work on.
    • A link that connects the client with the host.
Is the host on the same network as the client or is it on a different network?
