  1. Reload of Windows after changing motherboard

I replaced my motherboard a few months ago. Of course when I reloaded my win pro 10 retail version I get the usual Activate Windows. I went through the whole process using troubleshooter and it of course also did not help. To try and cut the frustration short, I went the Microsoft directly and purchased a new copy o f WIn Pro 10. I then went to the activation directions and entered the new product code. It took the code and then said I needed to activate window - go figure. I suspected that because the copy I was currently running was from my old copy that it may have something to do with it. I then reloaded from my account the new copy entering the product code when asked. I also reformatted the OS partition when loading the new copy to my computer. All went well including the current updates to Windows. I rebooted and the system came up and seemed to be fine for about a hour or so then the pesky Activate WIndows message come up. What I want to know from the community is how do you load a new retail paid for legitimate copy of windows on a system. What ever I did, did not seem to appease the Windows Gods. I guess I will have to keep using this legitimate copy even though Microsoft says it isn't.

    :)

  3. Windows 10 and upgrading motherboard

    Hi,

Thank you for bringing up your query on Microsoft Community.

The only hardware changes that can negatively impact activation status once you upgrade to free version are the changes to the:

    • CPU
    • TPM
    • Motherboard replacement
The following changes are examples of hardware changes that will NOT impact the activation status:

    • HDD/SSD
    • Video card
    • Adding extra memory
Let us follow the steps suggested by Andre Da Costa (replied
on July 26, 2015) in the following thread:
