  1. Remapping keys *without* downloading a new program? (Explanation inside)

My office moved to remote work in March, and I took my work laptop home with me. In this period of time, the quotation mark key has stopped working, and nothing I do seems to fix it.

This would easily be remedied by downloading a key mapper program, and mapping a key I use less to the quotation mark key. The only problem: this is a work computer, so I cant install anything without administrator privileges provided by our IT department. And for obvious reasons, I dont want to admit that a key has stopped working, lest I be held liable.

So, my question is: Can I map one key to another without downloading a new program? All research Ive conducted ultimately redirects me toward downloading/installing an outside program, which I cant do. Can anyone here help me?

  2. Need to remap several keys on keyboard!!

My spacebar and backspace keys do not work, I wanted to remap them on the keyboard to other keys that I don't use. I've tried many downloadable programs like SharpKeys, but they are not working... I have Windows 10 and need to know if there's something
else I can do to remap the functions of these two keys to another location....

  3. Keyboard remapping program

That's why I posted the tutorial link. *Stick Out Tongue Remapping keys *without* downloading a new program? (Explanation inside) :p

    .... Autohotkey comes to mind.
Say I want to make the 'a' key 'b' and the 'b' key 'a'. I'd open up notepad and create a new document. Then I'd type the following two lines:
Code: a::b b::a[/quote] Next I would save it as "swap_a-b.ahk" and exit notepad. Finally double-click on the "swap_a-b.ahk" file you created and it should launch the script using Autohotkey. When you're done using the remapping simply quit Autohotkey by clicking exit in the right click menu of the system tray icon.

    Remapping keyboard keys

thanks for this but the first post is to "assign a macro or program to a key" which is not what i want to do.

Im not sure why i would need to run the troubleshooter because there is nothing wrong with the keyboard i just want to remap the keys.

i am unsure also why you are referring me to update with the media creation tool? these seem completely unrelated to my problem....

note: i just tried selecting the 'send key combinations' on my remote desktop client and this allowed the remapping software to recognise the CMD key as the left windows key so i thought i was in luck. i remapped it in the software to the left CRTL key and
restarted but it doesnt seem to have done anything at all....frustrating.
