Windows 10: Remember that Southern Hemisphere seasons are different

This is quite a minor thing in the grand scheme of Life, the Universe and Everything, but this is the lock screen I was greeted with today said: "The days may be getting shorter, but so is the time you spend searching"With a lovely autumnal scene in the background. I'd upload the image here, but no matter what I try, the attach image icon above doesn't work.The problem is that it's September here in Australia. And that means Spring. More the point, that the days are getting longer, not shorter.Does this mean that our time spent searching will also be getting longer? ;You might like to info

Compass API does not work in the Southern hemisphere.

Many people have reported incorrect compass headings using a variety of phones from different manufaturers.

It would appear most of the these are located in the southern hemisphere.

My Lumia 800 incorrecty shows true north around 106 degrees out , roughly pointing West. Also the magnetic bearing flicks from 0 to 255 as the phone traverses through the correct magnetic north (as determined by a real compass).

It is not the phone hardware that is faulty as I can use the raw magentometer XYZ vector data to calculate the correct magentic and true headings.

The way the compass API determines magentic declination would appear to be the at least one of the issues although this doesn't account for the magnetic bearing flicking from 0 to 255 as it passes through mag. north.

Is there a fix planned for this? It make the phone useless for any sort of application requiring stationary heading information.

 

All Lumias in southern hemisphere, or AUS/NZ have faulty compass - Nokia, fix this.

I'm a new Lumia 800 owner and I've just discovered this bug. The worrying thing is that nobody seems to want to fix it.



It seems the issue is OS-related rather than hardware-related. But now that Nokia and Windows Phone are married, I'd like to think they could push Microsoft on the problem for the good of their own users.



Any app that uses compass features in the southern hemisphere is borked. So all those fancy city lens, map and drive apps Nokia is touting? Completely useless for half the world.



Is it really that hard to find a developer who can program a compass?

 

Windows 10 Fall Creators Update called "Autumn Creators Update" in UK

Surely when it's Fall/Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, the Southern Hemisphere is transitioning from Winter to Summer, what all of us in the north call Spring when that seasonal change happens to us?

Will the antipodeans get a Spring Creators Update then?
