  1. Remote access from scammers on Win11

hi I was wondering how Microsoft is protecting vulnerable users from scammers using the built in remote access tool. recently my older friend had her laptop access and I had to install Linux just to get the thing working again! it seems that this is not the first case as I have heard similar stories about it from bank contacts. Is there any possible way to protect vulnerable people from allowing 3rd parties from convincing them to access their personal computers in Win11?

    :)

    Remote access

    Hi zabby937

Did you allow those Tech Support scammers to have Remote Access to your PC, they would have asked you to allow that?

Once you have turned off Remote Access, they can no longer access your PC.

Open Control Panel - Programs and Features, order that list by Date Installed

Check for any software installed on that date, like TeamViewer or LogMeIn, if you find any remoting application like those, uninstall it

Other than that, you have taken all the right steps and your PC will be fine, you do not need to worry about this further . .

    Remote Access

    1. Follow these steps to disallow remote access to your PC completely:
    2. 1. Type “remote settings” into the Cortana search box. Select “Allow remote access to your computer”. This may seem counter-intuitive, but this opens the Control panel
      dialog for Remote System Properties.
    3. 2. Check “Don't Allow Remote Connections” to this Computer. You've now disabled remote access to your computer.

Try these two steps and tell us if your issue gets solved. If it does not then your PC may be infected. Use a Good antivirus to remove the infection from your device completely.

Microsoft Scammer - Remote Access to my Computer

    Hi T1R027

This is very common these days, these scammers are not technically proficient and rely upon an innocent user to give them remote access

If you have Reset Windows 10, you have done the right thing, you have nothing to worry about and no need to clean install Windows

These Tech support scammers typically add software to remote to the PC, they then deliberately corrupt Windows in order to scam money from the user.

Once you have Reset Windows, anything they have done to that PC will be removed, there is no need to re-format and re-install
