Windows 10: Remote access

I unfortunately allowed someone maintaining they were from BT Openreach and they were trying to get me to make a payment through my bank. Very fortunately this was not successful and no damage appears to have been done


I am now concerned that they may be able to still access my computer and I have carried out the following checks


1. Have run a full antivirus scan - all clear

2. Have deleted any program or information used for the access

3. I have turned off the remote access

4. I have checked the event viewer to see if there was any activity other than my own and does not appear to be so

5. I turned off my internet connection and went into task manager to check the processes and there does not appear to be anything out of the ordinary


Is there anything else that I should do to to avoid any access

Sounds like you are the recipient of stolen goods. All of our work laptops have this feature where it locks the BIOS and hard disk remotely if stolen, misplaced, or after a certain number of failed access attempts to the data on the disk without the TPM key.

I would suggest returning it to wherever you bought or got it.

Remote access denied.

Hi Paul,

To resolve your concern about remote access denied, follow the steps below:

• Press the Windows logo+R on your keyboard.
• Type services.msc on the Run box.
• Open Remote Desktop Services.
• Go to the Log On tab.
• Select This account: Network Service.
• Click Apply, and then OK.
