  1. Remote desktop connection does not carry the domain name into the UAC

When I open the Remote Desktop window on my computer, I enter the computer name I want to connect to, as well as my domain name and username Domain\Username. After pressing connect, the UAC window from Windows Security appears to enter my password. At this point, the username does no longer contains the domain name Username instead of Domain\Username. Without the domain sepcified it is not possible for me to login into the remote server.I have to select "More choices" -> "Use a different account" and reenter Domain\Username then type my password. Is the a registrey key or any other s

Cannot remote connect from a Domain computer into a nondomain computer

I have been trying to get a computer in a domain to connect to a computer not part of the domain. I can easily connect from the nondomain pc into the domain pc, but not the other way around. Both pc's are running Windows 10. When I try to connect form the
Domain computer to the Non-domain computer I get the following error, "Remote Desktop can't find the computer "(Computer's name)". This might mean that "(Computer Name)" does not belong to the specified network. Verify the computer name and domain that you
    are trying to connect to."

I know how to get the computers name. The Domain computer has (Computer Name).(domain).local and I can remote into it super easy. The nondomain network is just (Computer Name) with no .(domain) as part of the full name.

How to use Remote Desktop - Microsoft Support this works just fine for getting into the domain computer but the same steps dont work when going the other way around.

Can computers in a domain remote into a non-domain computer or is there some setting that I need to change to make that work?

    Remote Desktop Connection problems

Have you tried Remote Desktop Connection, to connect from your Windows 10 laptop to your Windows 7 desktop? Try it first, post back and tell how it went.

Some additional help because you mentioned you are a remote newbie *Wink. The windows 7 related tutorials from our sister site the Seven Forums:

    1. On Windows 7 desktop, set network location to either Home or Work (I recommend Work):
    2. On Windows 7 desktop, allow incoming remote connections:
    3. On Windows 7 desktop, find out its IP address:
    4. On Windows 10 laptop, start the Remote Desktop application and connect to the Windows 7 desktop using the IP address from step 3 above (see Part Three in the tutorial):
Try the above, post back how it went.

Remote desktop connection does not carry the domain name into the UAC

    REMOTE DESKTOP

    RBCPAPC,

For a little while I was using the remote desktop function almost daily to connect back to a laptop in my home office. The following fields are required:

Computer: The External IP address of your network. You will then need a NAT to carry the connection through to the computer

Username: this will be a user name that has remote desktop control enabled on your desktop (which is not always by default depending on your OS)

    Password: Password for above account

Domain: this is blank. but that depends. If your using a computer on a Domain, then you will need to have the domain listed here. However, if your office desktop is just part of a work group, then leave this blank.

Let us know if that helps. I've got a few other tips and tricks up my sleave if you need them.
