  1. Remote Desktop Connection to System 7 Pro strange problem

Strange problem... 3 computers networked: a desktop PC [Asus M32BF - Windows 10 Home], a laptop [Lenovo B575 - System 7.0 Pro] and a trusty old desktop PC [Dell-D3000 - Windows XP Pro] running as a file server/backup.

Using Remote Desktop Connection, I can connect from all computers to the others EXCEPT from the Win10 PC to the Sys7.0 laptop I have tried disabling the firewalls but no help there. Also, file sharing works in all directions as well - 'Network' shows all 3 online.

I'm baffled - can anyone help or suggest some troubleshooting tips? Thanks much in advance - I appreciate it.

    :)

  2. remote desktop

    Thanks for your reply Andre.

    Windows version: 1703, both pc's.

Remote desktop is enabled on both pc's; Remote assistance and remote connections in the system properties Remote tab are set.

Remote desktop program is installed on both pc's. The desktop pc is often used to connect to my pc on my work/business. No problems then. this would mean, the desktop is set correctly for remote dektop.

By the way, the work pc runs windows 7.

My laptop SP4 runs windows 10 pro. To connect, it asks for my credentials of my microsoft account. although I can log on to that account from both pc's, the remote desktop connection keeps telling me that the credentials supplied are incorrect.

Any idea what I can do?

    thanks in advance.

    Hans.

Remote Desktop Connection to Windows 10 Home - Unable to make

I purchased several Intel NUC Computers with Windows 10 Home - Was assured by Intel & Microsoft that as Remote Desktop is part of Windows 10 Home and I will have a full blown remote capability.

I followed and double checked all posted configuration settings for Windows 10 to allow to connect to it

Attempting to connect to Windows10 Home using several Windows 7 Pro systems , I am unable to make that connection

Microsoft Support claims that it is possible using Remote Desktop Connection on a Windows 7 Pro computer to connect to Windows 10 Home - I cannot manage to do that

Some Microsoft documentation suggests that one cannot connect to Win 10 Home using Remote Desktop

So which is it ? Is it Possible or Not ?

  4. Remote Desktop Connection to System 7 Pro strange problem

Hello John VanMunster Welcome to the Ten Forums!

Looking for something you can run on all but the XP machine? For solving to 10 to every other pc including the 7 laptop the free for Home use version of Team Viewer 11 makes for an excellent app. You will get timed out automatically after so long of inactivity however but can immediately reconnect remotely to the list of contacts you create for the network excluding XP since the program is simply too new. Solution? Team Viewer Host is also available for download as well at: TeamViewer Windows Download

The following screen capture makes for an interesting puzzle since one display shows the Host pc(7 side of dual boot with 10) connected to a 10 VM on a second pc(10 Pro Insider builds/7 Pro dual boot) seeing the VM there connecting to the main build's VM!

The main build here sees a dual monitor set up which allows for having a VM running on one screen and the remotely accessed second pc on the other!

One thing I should add in here since you may be simply running into a slight misconfiguration problem as far as the remote access on the 7 machine goes for unintended access as the term goes would be looking over a guide on how to set up 7 for remote connections seen at one of the other sites being the SevenForums. On the 7 system do you have remote desktop enabled without requiring Network Level Authentication? On the 10 system in the remote desktop settings try selecting the option on the Advanced tab that says 'Warn me if authentication fails'.

  7. But you were having problems with 7 and the TV program is rather easy to set up the Unintended Access for full remote access to the 7 laptop you have. I had one here first seeing TV 7 or 8 on the OEM 7 install at first and later upgraded to 10 seeing TV 10 until the unit suddenly quit. The brand new 10 replacement has TV 11 in use there for remote access of the test build here while on the go.

The TV Host app however is more for the commercial/corporate application more apt to be put to use by a company's IT dept. but something I thought I would mention. That offers a master remote control over everything but for a price as far as the software licensing goes.

  10. The TV is the Team Viewer program I pointed you to as a means of seeing remote access available for the 7 laptop. That would be a fast temp solution until the problem as to why the remote protocols there are not working which sounds like a glitch in Windows itself. You may have to consider a repair install or recovery of 7 if not a clean install of the OS on the laptop if not simply ending up removing it from the equation. If a new enough model you might even consider moving upto 10 on it while 7 can still be downloaded if you lack the recovery media or other 7 media options.

  11. solution was an upgrade to pro on system 10

  12. That will take care of things as well. The Pro edition will automatically see more networking support along with the other options available. The Team Viewer software on the other hand regardless of the edition being offers completely isolated remote access and can be installed from 7 on up to 10 with the present version.

That will have the one drawback for the free version however of running into timed out sessions when the machines running it are left sitting idle to long. They then will be timed out by the TV servers themselves.

Remote Desktop Connection to System 7 Pro strange problem

    Hi there.

If you can't use RDP (you can't CONNECT to RDP if the remote computer is not running a PRO version of Windows or above) why not try the free TIGHT VNC program -- does the same job and will run on all versions of Windows including XP (and even W2000 if you still have it).

TightVNC: VNC-Compatible Free Remote Control / Remote Desktop Software

    Cheers

  14. Team Viewer is edition independent as well. But in order to avoid the time out factor per session without the commercial key you simply have to log back in each time a session ends. TV will also run on everything from 2000 to 10 without problem being version/edition independent. TeamViewer Support – Help regarding licensing and technical issues

With the upgrade to Pro you decided on there however neither of these would be necessary but options available mainly for none network connection if you happen to be out and need an unintended remote access.

    Hi there
I question the promotion of Teamviewer here when a FREE product does the job better and without the annoyance of timeout per session etc.

The other thing about Teamviewer is that in some places you won't be allowed to run it either as you have to connect to an external server. Tight VNC simply uses standard RDP protocols.

    Cheers
