Windows 10: "Remote Desktop Connection Usage" pops up everytime I start WSL.

I'm recreating this question based on another user since the thread was locked and did not allow me to provide a possible solution.Some users experience an annoying "Remote Desktop Connection Usage" popup every time they launch the WSL Windows Sub-system for Linux.The solution I found online that solved this issue for me, was to create a file named .wslconfig in my user profile directory with the following entries:[wsl2]guiapplications=falseIf I understood the issue correctly, the Linux distro I'm launching is command line only, without a graphics manager. As a result, the MSTSC application

Hi,

I recently installed WSL with ubuntu distro. When I started it, i got this popup (screenshot attached) about some remote desktop connection. I read it and wanted to close it. So I clicked on "OK". But it reappeared after 2 secs. and would not go away no matter how many times i close it.





This just keeps popping up so long I have WSL running. As soon as i shut WSL down, and click on OK it doesn't appear anymore till I restart WSL.

Any help as to why this is happening and how to stop this from happening will be greatly appreciated.

P.S: I already tried updating WSL kernel but it didn't help.

I know you've had some trouble starting WSL, which does affect usage, and I sympathize with you.

However, the issues on WSL is out of reach of the response support community. It is more suitable for publishing on Microsoft Learn (English only). Here is a link to the forum, you can click on "Ask a question", there are experts who can provide more professional solutions in that place.

Remote Desktop Connection problems


Have you tried Remote Desktop Connection, to connect from your Windows 10 laptop to your Windows 7 desktop? Try it first, post back and tell how it went.

Some additional help because you mentioned you are a remote newbie *Wink. The windows 7 related tutorials from our sister site the Seven Forums:

1. On Windows 7 desktop, set network location to either Home or Work (I recommend Work):
   • Network Location - Set as Home, Work, or Public Network - Windows 7 Help Forums
2. On Windows 7 desktop, allow incoming remote connections:
   • Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) - Network - Windows 7 Help Forums
3. On Windows 7 desktop, find out its IP address:
   • IP Address - Locate and Find for Your Computer - Windows 7 Help Forums
4. On Windows 10 laptop, start the Remote Desktop application and connect to the Windows 7 desktop using the IP address from step 3 above (see Part Three in the tutorial):
   • RDC - Connect Remotely to your Windows 10 PC - Windows 10 Forums
   • Notice that although the tutorial is written for Windows 10, it also applies to Windows 7

Try the above, post back how it went.
