Windows 10: Remote Desktop *Server* crashes when establishing connection

I'm running my home desktop on Windows 11 Pro.When I'm trying to connect with Microsoft's RDP client on iOS or from another Windows 11 laptop then I crash said desktop.This was not always the case. I was able to connect and work on the machine in the past. I just recently noticed the problem.There's no BSOD.The screen is dark but not switched off. Therefore there must still be some video signal on the monitor. The network is dead, the machine doesn't respond to ping anymore.It doesn't respond to Ctrl-Alt-Del. I have to do a hardware reset.The graphics card is an AMD Radeon 7800 XT, motherboard

Unable to access server via remote desktop after router change

Hi,

I manage my home theatre and music servers via remote desktop. Both have wired connections to the router.

All has been well for many years.

Recently our old modem/router was replaced with a new one. There have been no other changes.

While I can still remote into the home theatre server I am no longer able to remote into the music server:

Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer....

What I can do is:

• ping the music server
• bring up shares on the music server on another computer
• access the music server using TeamViewer

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can use remote desktop to manage my music server again please?

 

Remote Desktop Connection problems


Have you tried Remote Desktop Connection, to connect from your Windows 10 laptop to your Windows 7 desktop? Try it first, post back and tell how it went.

Some additional help because you mentioned you are a remote newbie *Wink. The windows 7 related tutorials from our sister site the Seven Forums:

1. On Windows 7 desktop, set network location to either Home or Work (I recommend Work):

2. On Windows 7 desktop, allow incoming remote connections:

3. On Windows 7 desktop, find out its IP address:
   • IP Address - Locate and Find for Your Computer - Windows 7 Help Forums
4. On Windows 10 laptop, start the Remote Desktop application and connect to the Windows 7 desktop using the IP address from step 3 above (see Part Three in the tutorial):
   • RDC - Connect Remotely to your Windows 10 PC - Windows 10 Forums
   • Notice that although the tutorial is written for Windows 10, it also applies to Windows 7

Try the above, post back how it went.

 

Remote Desktop Connection crashing

I have a specific computer (my desktop) I want to connect to. I can connect to other computers fine with my laptop. When I connect to my desktop, it connects - the crashed. I can connect to my desktop from other computers fine (same network/VPN).

I an connecting using a saved Remote Desktop Connection setting.

Any suggestions?
