Remote Desktop works for my local network but not outside my local network

My old home computer worked fine with remote desktop both in and out of my local network. I bought a new home computer with 11 pro, set up the remote desktop the same as in past and exactly as instructed and it works in my network, but does not work outside my network. I have the correct computer name and correct Pv4 IP address. When I try to connect outside my network with my computer name it says it can't find that name in the network. When I try to connect with my pv4 IP address it says I have been disconnected because another user has accessed my computer error code 0x516. I know remo

    Remote Desktop through different network

    Hello,

I'm trying to use Microsoft RD to connect to my home PC remotely.

It all works when making a connection on the same network, but when I try to connect from a different network I always some sort of an error message.

I'll mention that I CAN connect remotely using the Chrome Remote Desktop.

On the PC I'm trying to connect to, I have:

    • purchased Windows 11 Professional
    • downloaded RD client from the Microsoft store
    • enabled remote connection in Settings (Settings->System->Remote Desktop->Enable, then added my email address under Remote Desktop users)
    • In the firewall settings, I enabled Remote Desktop, both on private and public networks
    • set up port forwarding from port 3389 to my local IP address (screenshot attached, I may have done something wrong...)

Remote Desktop works for my local network but not outside my local network 4e5b4bc3-188f-40c9-8ca1-1e1b73caa355?upload=true.png

I have tried to connect by 3 different ways:

    1. Microsoft Remote Desktop (Apple Store app) on my Mac
    2. Microsoft Remote Desktop (Microsoft Store app) on another PC
    3. Remote Desktop Connection (built-in app on PCs) on another PC
    • In attempt 1, I tried in two ways:

Writing down in "PC name" the public IP - I get error message 0x204: "We couldn't connect to the remote PC. Make sure the PC is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."

OR Writing down in "PC name" the local IP, and writing the public IP under gateway - I get error message 0x300005f: "An error occurred while communicating with the Remote Desktop Gateway. If this keeps happening, contact your network administrator for assistance".
    • In attempt 2, I tried in two ways:

Writing down in "PC name" the public IP - I get error message 0x516: "You have been disconnected because another connection was made to the remote PC",

OR Writing down in "PC name" the local IP, and writing the public IP under gateway - I get error message 0x50331743: "Something went wrong when we tried to connect. If this keeps happening, ask your admin or tech support for help".
    • In attempt 3, I get the following error message (don't see any number):

"Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:

      1) Renote access to the server is not enabled

      2) The remote computer is turned off

      3) The remote computer is not available on the network

Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled
I would really appreciate if someone could help me with this issue, as I have been trying to find out the reason for it for over a year and still don't know what the problem is.

    Thank you very much.

Remote Desktop works for my local network but not outside my local network

Home group works on local area network but not from remote locations

I have a windows 10 desktop and a windows 10 laptop both set up on a homegroup. Both boxes are on WIFI. The desktop is the primary source of shared files. The laptop can access these files when on the local area WIFI network but not from a remote location.
Both machines are setup up the same way. The local router has the port forwarding set up as specified on the Port Forwarding Information screen on the desktop machine. The laptop has a different external port which I temporarily setup on the local router also
but it did help. I read where access could be blocked by the remote WIFI system the laptop is on. The questions I have as follows:

Does the remote router need port forwarding setup for the laptop to access the homegroup or is that port only for listening [allowing access to local files]?

If the remote WIFI is somehow blocking homegroup would that also block internet video and music streaming?

Is there anyway to tell if homegroup is being blocked at the remote location?

Assuming homegroup is not being blocked, what else should I look for that would effect remote access but not local area WIFI access?

    I will appreciate any suggestions
