  1. remote drive in usb port not accessible, though "working Properly" per device manager

I have a remote drive plugged into a ubs port that device manager tells me is working properly and has an up to date driver, yet it does not show up in the file folder and apps can't access it. I tried uninstalling and switching usb ports, plugging into another computer, and "search for new hardware" in device manager. Please help. I contacted the manufacturer of the drive Toshiba but they won't help.

    :)

  2. USB Ports not working

    Hi Marvin,

We appreciate your interest in Windows 10.

As you are facing issues with accessing the USB ports on your device, do not worry we will help you with this issue.

Do let us know the make and model of the device?

This issue might have occurred due to corrupted drivers on your device. Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to check if there are any drivers with exclamatory mark in Device Manager.

    • Press Windows + X keys from the keyboard, click on
      Device Manager.
    • Check for the drivers with exclamatory mark in yellow triangle.
    • If so, right click on the driver, click on Properties
      and check the device status.
    • Also, try to update the drivers by click on Update driver software
under Drivers tab in Properties window.

Step 2: I suggest you to run Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

    Hardware and Devices troubleshooter
checks for common problems and makes sure that any new device or hardware connected to your PC is installed correctly.

    • Press Windows key from the keyboard, type
      Troubleshooting and select it.
    • Click on view all option on the upper left corner of
      Troubleshooting window.
    • Select the Hardware and Device
      options from the list.
    • Click Next to run the
      Hardware and Device
      Troubleshooter.

Hope it helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of accessing the USB ports for further assistance.

    Thank you.

Device Manager; Unable to Access Remote Setup Port (COM9)

remote drive in usb port not accessible, though "working Properly" per device manager 224090d1549925691t-device-manager-unable-access-remote-setup-port-com9-021119.jpg
This is a Windows 10 Professional 64 Bit, 1803 build, Attempted to install a Brother ADS-2000, but the Remote Setup Port (COM9), there is some type of device error on this particular driver.

What is Remote Setup Port (COM9). I think Comm is a communications port, as best I know. See attached picture. Thanks.

remote drive in usb port not accessible, though "working Properly" per device manager

    USB port stopped working

I had a USB2 port on the front panel that was working for a year but then one day it was not.

I uninstalled / installed the device via Control Panel for both of the USB Composite Device listings but it made no difference. I thought it may be a bad connection but everything looked OK. Both ports had power according to a USB digital voltmeter.

On the motherboard I moved the cable going to the front panel from one of the USB 2.0 Headers to the other Header & everything worked. At least for a couple months. Now the same port on the front panel does not work again.

So I uninstalled / installed both USB Composite Device listings but it made no difference. Under Properties it says they are working properly.

In Control Panel I did not touch the USB controllers for either USB 3.0 listing or for the USB Printing Support.

The port was working a few days ago but now it is not. The only thing that really happened lately was a Windows 10 Security Update that was installed on 10-27-2022. Could that have changed something?

Anything is possible but it seems strange that the same front panel port stopped working no matter which mobo header is used. Could one of my USB thumb drives be going bad & when plugged in is shorting out something on the motherboard?

Any ideas & suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
