  1. remount usb after eject/unmount?

My password manager lives entirely on a USB stick attached to my laptop no main drive installation, no cloud. When I'm on a public WiFi network, I use VPN with kill switch, and eject the USB as soon as I'm done with passwords.

The question is, if the USB is still in the slot, would an attacker be able to remount it without physical access? Does the Disk Management Profile store enough information so someone could recreate a connection to an ejected but still physically present USB stick?

The surest option would be to remove the stick, but I'm using a very small form factor stick more like a blip for passwords and I worry about it getting misplaced.

In other words, how secure is my homegrown password security scenario?

On a related issue, how in the world does one manage a microSDXC chip once it is removed from its slot? My family history in a terabyte that disappears with a cough?

Thanks for your consideration and expertise.

  2. Windows 10 repeatedly unmounts/remounts external USB hard drives

Ever since my upgrade to Windows 10, I've been running into an issue where the OS will unmount USB hard drives and then remount then a couple seconds later. Then, a few moments later, unmount and remount. It does this over and over again.

Anybody else run into this issue?

  3. Remounting ejected USB Flash drive in Win 10

    Hi,

After I safely eject a USB flash drive, after a while, if I plug it back in again it is not recognised. How do I remount it.

It seems that I have to re-boot my PC to get it to recognise the USB flash drive again after safely ejecting. This is very inefficient if I need to do several file transfers intermittently. Is there a fix?

    Thanks

    Jeff

Thank you for posting back with the information.

This problem is possibly caused by faulty USB chipset or drivers.

For initial troubleshooting steps, we suggest that you try to uninstall the USB Root Hub in Device Manager using the steps below:

    • Type Device Manager in the search box and press Enter.
    • Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    • Right-click on USB Root Hub and click Properties.
    • Go to Driver tab, then click Uninstall Device.

Note: After uninstalling the device successfully, restart your PC and install the device again. You might get a prompt message or notification to install the device, or you can follow the steps again to install it. Make sure that you have internet connection.

After uninstalling and installing the USB root hub, check if the issue still persists.

    Post back with the result.
