Remove an unavailable pc from homegroup

I have read elsewhere that to remove an unavailable pc from your homegroup you need to go to the homegroup owning PC and remove it from there.
How do you know which is the owning PC?

Once found how do you remove the unavailable pc?

    :)

  2. Home network

    Hi Rich,

To remove unavailable PCs in the HomeGroup, try this method:

    • Open File Explorer and locate your list of PCs in the HomeGroup
    • Click on the unavailable PCs.
    • Click on Remove <PC name> from the HomeGroup.

Let us know how it goes.

  3. Network Connections Manager?

    Hi Laura,

We acknowledge that you would like to remove old computers that have been added to your network for file sharing and for us to effectively assist you on this, kindly confirm to us if you're referring to Windows Homegroup. If yes, you may follow the steps
below to easily remove those old computers from your Homegroup connection.

    • Start by opening File Explorer.
    • In the navigation pane on the left, scroll down and then expand the Homegroup folder.
    • In that folder, you'll see a list of PCs in the Homegroup. PCs that are unavailable on the network are dimmed. If a computer is asleep, turned off, or just disconnected from the network, it will show as unavailable.
    • Click the name of the computer that you would like to remove.
    • After clicking, on the right, click the "Remove <computername> from the homegroup" option. No confirmation will be prompted but the computer will be removed from the homegroup.

Do get back to us with the results and if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to post back.

Thanks for the link. I did try that and discovered a difference. If you click homegroup on file explorer it throws up a list of other computers. Because I started all the computers with my MSA there used to be just one entry. I have now created aliases for a number of them and they now show up separately. The computer I want to remove from the homegroup is not one of the separately shown ones but one of the ones under the main MSA. When I try too remove that one it fails. According to the link you gave that requires option 2 a complete restart of the whole homegroup. That is very difficult to achieve so I will probably just leave the unavailable computer as that unavailable.
