  1. Remove Child Account Restrictions — I’m 19 and No Longer in a Family Group

Hello,I’m 19 years old, and my Microsoft account’s date of birth is correct in my profile. I was previously part of a Microsoft Family group as a child, but I have since left the family group.Despite this, my account still has child account restrictions that prevent me from changing privacy and Xbox settings. I keep getting messages saying that only a parent or organizer can modify these settings, or that I need to be in a family group to make changes. Please remove all child or minor restrictions from my account immediately so I can have full control over my settings.Thank you for your prompt

Unable to remove child account from Family

Thanks Elise. Your suggestion worked. I contacted live chat option via "Get Help" app.

Just for others who read this in future I had performed the following steps to solve the issue.

    1. Log into Microsoft Family Safety
    2. Select 3 dots on the top right of child's card & select "Remove consent for this child's account"
    3. It then warns, "You are about to remove parental consent for this child. They will no longer have permissions to access certain Microsoft sites and services."
    4. Click on "Remove consent" button
    5. Go back to Microsoft Family Safety home page. Wait for few seconds for settings to reflect. The child account will disappear from family home page.

Unable to remove child account from Family

I am the family organizer & there is just one member in the family besides me i.e. my child. I am unable to remove my child's (age: 11) account from family. It gives below error (after step 3).

You can't remove Ami from the family. Family members under statutory age need an adult's consent to join a family group. Only the adult that granted consent for Ami can remove this family member. Ask the family organizer who granted Ami consent to remove Ami from the family group.

    Steps followed:

    1. Log into Microsoft Family Safety
    2. Select 3 dots on the top right of child's card & select "Remove from family group"
    3. A dialog appears for final confirmation. Select Remove.
If I am the family organizer why can't I remove it?

Why does it say "Only the adult that granted consent for Ami can remove this family member"? Who else other than me granted consent? How can I find it out?

How can I remove my child's account from family?

My child cannot remove herself from the family group as well. She logged into Microsoft Family Safety but doesn't see the option to exit the group. Actually, I want her to join a different family group but it's not allowed since she is already a member of a current family group. Until she leaves her current family group she can't join a new one.

Cannot remove child account from Microsoft Family Group

Hello! My name is Ben a fellow member here in the community, not a Microsoft employee. Hope you are doing well!

I can see you have tried removing the child account already using the current organizer in your Microsoft Family. Allow me to offer assistance and troubleshoot this.

Do you remember if you have a different organizer or adult account in your Family group aside from the 2 accounts you have mentioned? If there is an organizer account before on your group and it is the one who gave consent to the child account, we will need to add the account back so it will be that account to remove the child account from the group.

Note: Only the adult who granted consent can remove a child account from the family group. If the adult cannot access their account, the adult or appropriate guardian should attempt to recover the adult account.

If you have access to the adult account that gave consent to the child account, you may follow the steps below to remove the account from your group:

    1. Using a web browser, sign in to family.microsoft.com.

    2. Click next to the person's name and select Remove from family group.

    3. Select Remove to confirm.

More steps and details can also be found here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/account-bil...

Feel free to reply on this thread if you are still experiencing problem. I'll be attentive to your reply and I'll be glad to offer further assistance.

    Best,

    Ben
