Remove any "Get an app to open this 'xxx' link"

    Hello,

New to Windows 11, I noticed the Windows system regularly shows a popup to propose to Browse Microsoft Store for a lot of different links.

For example : "Get an app to open this 'ms-gamebar' link" or "Get an app to open this 'ms-gamingoverlay' link" or "Get an app to open this 'res' link" or "Get an app to open this 'roblox player' link" or "Get an app to open this '[...whatever...]' link".

All these popups don't serve any purpose in the way I use my computer. I actually can use everything as I want without any difficulty, save this annoying popup that obliges me to click somewhere to remove it from the screen (which is seriously annoying since it doesn't serve any of my purpose but requires an action from me).

I would like to ask the community and/or Microsoft to give the the steps to follow to simply get ride of any of these popups, and I mean, I want to do what it is necessary to be sure that my computer won't never show a popup with "Get an app to open this 'xxx' link".

Could you please help me to remove any of these popups ?

    Thanks a lot in advance.

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. Remove popup "Get an app to open 'settings.ext.modulescreenmode' link" at startup :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

    Cannot open mail app settings

OK, my next suggestion was going to be uninstalling Mail and Calendar and reinstalling from the Windows Store. You can have a go at this by following these steps.

    1. Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell.
    2. Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator.
    3. Enter the below command to remove the Mail and calendar app.

    get-appxpackage *microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps* | remove-appxpackage

After performing the above steps, install the Mail and calendar app from the Windows Store.

Hope this helps, you will, of course, have to add you accounts back again.
