    1. How come gpedit's force classic start menu does not work?


    2. How do I get rid of the show desktop icon at the edge of the taskbar?


    3. How come when I disable showing if the safely remove hardware icon.... it still displays it?

    The safely remove hardware icon usually appears when you have some sort if USB storage device plugged in.

    If you click on the icon does it show any devices that can be removed ?

    Remove Linux Desktop Icons

    I am not sure whether this will work (Ubuntu does not have icons like that on the desktop by default), but I suggest opening the trash bin and sweeping the icons into the window showing the trash bin.
