Hi all,Elaborating on the question, back in the day, i bought a legit windows 7 home disc. I've installed it on a fresh pc and down the road, upgraded it to windows 10. Time went by and i stopped using the pc and gave it away and so the device went dormant. Recently, i checked my microsoft account and i saw that the license was still attached to the old pc and i figured i'll use it on a new build that i was planning. So a couple of days back, i've finished the new pc build and installed windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool.I entered my product key and everything installed with no issues. 2. Anyone can upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for $14.99.

Microsoft cracked down on the upgrade requirements you now need a windows 7 key OEM or Retail but the code its self needs to be one they listed in there upgrades system, So old keys wont work.

  3. Issue with Removing Old Device from "Link to Windows" Application

    Dear Microsoft Support,

I am experiencing a persistent issue with the "Link to Windows" (formerly known as Phone Companion) application. Here is a detailed explanation of the problem and the steps I have taken so far:

    Problem Description:

I had activated the "Link to Windows" application on my laptop.

Subsequently, I had to format my SSD and reinstall Windows on the laptop.

Before formatting, I did not log out of the "Link to Windows" application on the laptop; I only logged out from the mobile app.

After reinstalling Windows, I reactivated the "Link to Windows" application on my mobile device and linked it to the same laptop.

Now, in the mobile application, the old instance of my laptop (the one before formatting) still appears as an active device.

There is no option to remove this old device from the mobile application.

    Attempts to Resolve the Issue:

I logged out and logged back in on the "Link to Windows" application on my mobile device multiple times.

I checked my Microsoft account online and found no reference to the old device; only the current laptop is listed.

I contacted Microsoft Support, and after two hours of troubleshooting, we were unable to resolve the issue. The support agent ultimately informed me that they did not know how to fix the problem.

I attempted the following additional steps:

Uninstalled and reinstalled the "Link to Windows" application on my mobile device.

Cleared the data and cache of the application.

Logged out of my Microsoft account on both devices and logged back in.

Checked Microsoft Teams and other Microsoft services for linked devices, but the old device does not appear there.

Ensured that the device is not listed under "Your devices" in the Microsoft account settings.

    Request for Advanced Support:

Given the persistence of this issue despite extensive troubleshooting, I am requesting advanced technical support or escalation to a specialist team.

The problem seems to be specific to the "Link to Windows" application and possibly related to backend data synchronization.

I appreciate your attention to this matter and look forward to a resolution. Please let me know if you need any additional information or access to diagnostic logs from my devices.

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Best regards,

Removing an old PC from Devices

I can't remove an old PC from my list of Devices. When I try it says to wait, then try again later.
