  1. Removing an app with "add or remove program" caused files being copied into unknown location

Hi. I have a problem. I was deleting some old apps from my PC for free space, however during uninstall I had a popup about copying files somewhere. When I checked my disc storage, it went from 110gb to 40gb instantly after this process was done. Also I noticed that my temp folder in appdata/local takes more space than files inside it when I do CTRL+A inside folder, files there take up 70gb, but folder itself takes about 100gb, even with turned on seeing all hidden files. Is there a way to safe this PC?

    :)

  2. Can't remove copy of program in "open with" list in Windows 11

    Hello,

I'm having a problem with my "open with" list on my Windows 11 laptop.

I have a program I like to use (let's call its executable file "program.exe") that's located in "C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\program". I recently downloaded an updated version of the same program (with the same executable file name as before), only it's located in a new folder called "C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\program2". I used to open files (.bin, .rar) with the old "program.exe" from the "open with" list, and now I want to open them with the updated one of the same name, so I deleted the old version in favor of the new one. The problem is that I can't open "program.exe" from the "open with" list anymore.

For some reason, there are two copies of "program.exe" in the "open with" list that only respond to the old version that no longer exists on my laptop (I deleted it as mentioned in the previous paragraph). I used OpenWithView to remove one copy of the executable from the list, but I can't remove the other. I can't even "choose an app on [my] PC" to replace the version left. I can't remove the program from the list, but I can rename the new version's folder to the old version's folder (rename the folder "program2" to "program") so that my laptop can recognize the new version as the old version. But I want to remove this program from the list entirely and add it again so that my laptop can recognize the new version as the new version.

To summarize, I have one copy of "program.exe" in the "open with" list. I can't remove it, I can't replace it, and it won't open anything. I can disguise the new version so this copy can be used from the list again, but I don't want to. If there's any way to fix this, please let me know. If it helps, I think it might be a Windows Update problem (I'm currently using Windows 11, version 23H2).

This image shows an example of "program.exe". This program can't be opened from the list; it'll open if it's the old version, but that version no longer exists on my PC. I have a new version of this exact file, but I can't use it to replace this one in the list for some reason (because the new version's folder is different).

Removing duplicate app entries from the default files list

    Hi Roger,

There's a possibility that Firefox isn't uninstalled completely on your computer. We suggest that you uninstall it in the
Settings app by following these steps:

    • On Start, select that cog icon or Settings.
    • Go to Apps and select the program that you want to uninstall.
    • Select Uninstall and follow the instructions on the screen.

This will completely remove Firefox from your system and from the Default Apps list. You can also check and save this article that in case you need a guide to

Removing an app with "add or remove program" caused files being copied into unknown location

    removed apps

    Hi Marianne,

One way on how to reinstall apps is by downloading it from Windows
Store. To isolate your query about reinstalling apps, we just have a few questions:

    • Are you referring to the apps that have been downloaded from Windows Store? If so, what are the apps that have been removed from your device?
    • How the apps got removed from your device?

Meanwhile, if you're trying to reinstall apps that have been downloaded from
    Windows
Store, we suggest that you follow these steps:

    • Click Start, type Store, then press
      Enter
      .
    • On the search bar, type in the name of the app you wish to reinstall, then press
      Enter.
    • Click Free or Buy and wait for the program to install.

Please post back with the result for further assistance.
