Removing / Disassociating a Child's Account from a Local Account on Windows 10

Windows information: Windows 10 Pro 1903 Build 18362.836

    Context:

I've been using the same local account since Windows 8 through several upgrades. I'd been logged in as myself for store / xbox live since those became available services. My child wanted to buy something through his account in Minecraft so I figured "I'll just log myself out and log him in then change it back". Unfortunately, once he had been logged in, his email and family restrictions appear to have become permanently associated with this local account. The option to remove the account in Accounts -> Email & Accounts doesn't exist. I can re-add my account but I can't make it the primary account.

Question: Can I remove the association between his account and this local user in any way other than deleting the account?

I've disabled the family safety tasks so I can continue to use this account but would rather actually fix the problem.

    Thanks for any help.

    :)

Strange Windows 10 User Account issue.

Unfortunately I had done those steps numerous reboots, it just, reappears for no good reason. The base account isn't even a Microsoft account, it's a local account.

I haven't quite tried the built in administrator account on W10, but so far in my experience on my own computer, the built in account seemed to have absolutely no more control than I did on my own.

It's just strange, I go in, it warns me twice about deleting the account, then it's gone. Reboot, and it's back?

EDIT: Just to specify, both command line and Netplwiz both say only HIS account exists on the computer, it doesn't list this rogue account. This is what I meant in my first post about the fact that even Windows doesn't seem to believe it exists, HALF the time. *Frown Removing / Disassociating a Child's Account from a Local Account on Windows 10 :(

Unable to convert Microsoft account to Local account

    Hi Luke,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I appreciate your efforts on this. I understand that you have converted a Local account to a Microsoft account and want to convert the Microsoft account back to Local account.

Since the Microsoft account is a Child account that is the reason, you are unable to convert the Microsoft account to a Local account. If you delete the Child account from the computer, it will remove the Child account permanently from the computer.
If you have access to any other account on the computer, you can create a new local account on the computer. Please refer the steps in the article

Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10
    .

To remove the Child account from the computer, please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, type
      control
      and click on OK.
    2. Select Large icons from the drop down for
      view by.
    3. Click on User Accounts.
    4. Click on Manager User account.
    5. Select the Child account and click on
      Delete account.
    6. If you have important files saved in the account, click on
Keep files to save the files, else click on Delete files.
    7. Click on Delete account to delete the account.

As you have mentioned, you have removed the Child account from the Family I suggest you to check if the child account still reflects under the Family. If the Child account reflects under the Family, please remove the child account from the Family using
the Adult account, restart the computer and check if you get the option to convert the Microsoft account as a Local account.

For more information on removing the child account from Family, you can refer the article

Remove members from your family group.

Please reply with the status of the issue, we will be glad to help you further.

Cannot remove device (laptop) from account

When you initially set up the account prior to sending it back for warranty repairs, did you set up any child account? Other users who were experiencing the same issue were able to remove the old device by logging it to the child's account (Microsoft account)
and removing the device from there. However, if you did not setup any child account on the device, the next suggestion would be disassociating your Microsoft account or switching your Microsoft account to a local account one. Prior to doing so, remove the
current device from your list of devices in your Microsoft account:
    https://account.microsoft.com/devices

Then, switch back to a Microsoft account from a local account.

    Let us know for updates.
