  1. Removing lock encryption on Win 10 files in New Win 11

Hi I was creating encrypted files unintentionally on Win 10. I found how to stop it. But many files are still stored on externals with the lock encryption. The problem was I upgraded to Win 11 Pro 64B . It seems now I can only unencrypt these with my old Win 10 OS? I tried advanced security permissions and other solutions online with no luck.I guess this is a common problem, but I can`t find the correct answer I no longer have Win 10 and it took a long time to restore my computer after the upgrade to W11. Any chance this can be reversed? Is there software or a way to fix this.. It is the

  2. Encrypted Files - Win 10 to Win 11

I recently built a new system with a hardware combo for WIN 11, and moved my old hard disks over to the new system. During the change, I could not boot to my old boot drive due to it being NTFS. I used a new SSD and was able to get it formatted and installed windows there, I'm able to work in Windows 11.

However, I have one encrypted directory on one of the old NTFS disks which I can not decrypt, so I can't copy the files.

I have a new machine name and my user is (username/newmachine) and the files are owned by username/oldmachine. I can change their ownership the new ID but they will not copy due to the encryption.

I've tried to run cipher to update the files with a new cert, but it fails, no real error message other than a status indicating failure. I did use it to export the old cert, but don't see how to use it to get to these files to update them.

cipher does show my current key.

    cipher /rekey filename

    filename [ERR]

The filename could not be decrypted.

cipher does state that new files added to the directory will not be encrypted.

Any help getting these files accessible would be appreciated.
