  1. Removing Windows 10 on my HDD and using an NVME as a boot Drive

    Hello, recently I made some significant hardware changes to my PC. I changed the Processor, motherboard, and graphics card. During the change I wanted to refresh my various storage drives to get a clean install of windows with anything on my drives I wiped all my previous data. In the process I accidentally installed Windows 10 on two of my drives. One install is on a 1TB HDD and the other install is on a 1 TB NVME drive. I would like my system to use the 1 TB NVME drive as my primary and only WIN10 boot drive and uninstall windows on my HDD. However, I can't figure out how to uninstall wind

  2. Store Windows on NVMe Drive, but boot from HDD Drive?

    I have installed Windows 10 on a NVMe drive, connected through a PCIe slot. This machine already has Windows 7 installed on an HDD.

    The installation was successful, but because my motherboard is a bit older it is not possible to boot off of it in the standard way (the Windows 10 installer warned me that this would happen). Technically, I still boot to the HDD when I turn on my machine,
    but as you might expect when the default option of Windows 10 on the NVMe drive is selected, I get the error where "\Windows\system32\winload.exe" cannot be found. This makes sense, since at this stage there is no way to access anything from Windows 10 (including
    the support for NVMe drives). Fortunately, there is an option to simply boot Windows 7, as before, so I am not in a tragic situation -- just a little disappointed that I can't boot into a fresh Windows 10 installation in SSD.

    Now, with the drivers installed on Windows 7, I can indeed work with the drive that I installed Windows 10 on. I can see the Windows 10 installation, including, of course, the system32 folder, and winload.exe. I can understand that the winload.exe can't
    be found at boot time, because the pre-boot environment doesn't have the required support to 'see' the NVMe drive, but I was wondering if it was reasonable to expect to be able to copy / store the Windows 10 boot environment to a folder in the HDD, where it
    could load boot-time NVMe drivers and launch Windows 10 from the NVMe drive?

    As an experiment, I copied the Windows 10 folder my HDD as C:\Win10 and used BCDEDIT to set the following:

    Windows Boot Loader

    -------------------

    identifier {default}

    device partition=C:

    path \Win10\system32\winload.exe

    description Windows 10

    locale en-US

    inherit {bootloadersettings}

    custom:17000077 352321653

    osdevice partition=F:

    systemroot \Windows

    resumeobject {5e78b181-e53c-11e4-8fc1-dfb59cf0f0f5}

    nx OptIn

    custom:250000c2 1

    Unfortunately, this still results in the 0xC000000e error, which claims that winload.exe is corrupt, or can't be found. I am hoping that the problem is that a required boot-time driver was simply missing and the actual failure was in trying to access "F:",
    but maybe this entire approach is wrong-headed?

    My next experiment will be to try to manually install the SAMSUNG nvme drivers. After installing them through their installer, I found them in the Windows 7 driver store:

    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

    under

    nvme.inf_amd64_neutral_60ada273319ca785

    I'm going to try to manually install this to Windows 10 using:

    (from

    Windows: how to install driver from recovery command prompt?

    )

    Is it reasonable for Windows 10 installation to have a feature where the sufficient support to read a NVMe drive can be installed to a special boot partition (or even a USB drive)? Clearly, the installation media is capable of reading the drive -- maybe
    there is a middle ground in the boot process where it can ensure the NVMe is readable, and then proceed there. This way, instead of saying "windows cannot install to this drive", it could warn "windows requires a separate boot partition/drive to install to
    this drive, click here to configure."

    Thanks.

  3. Installing new NvMe drive and using it as primary boot runnig windows 10

    Hello,

    I have a preinstalled windows 10 along with 30+ apps(both from manufacturer and third party) running on my desktop. I recently bought the Samsung 960 evo NvMe drive and would like to use it as my new boot drive. I know that I have to create a bootable usb
    drive, disconnect all other SSD/HDD, leave only the NvMe drive, install windows on it and then reconnect all the drives back.

    I would like to understand how I could create an ISO image of my preinstalled windows 10(along with all the updates, hardware drivers and apps) and make a bootable USB out of it. Is it possible? if so, could anyone list the steps needed or point me to a
    thread or post online? Thank you.
