Windows 10: Rename soundcard how to make sound card name static instead of appended indexes

Sorry about the topic title, but I really don't know how to describe it.I have got an external soundcard via USB which sometimes isn't recognized at startup, but loads a short time after.The problem is, that I have some buttons in my media player which is foobar2000 to switch audio output to my various soundcards internal, external, onboard.Let's say I have a button that points to "Speakers SoundBlaster X3", but when the device fails to load immediately after startup, it gets renamed to something like "Speakers 2- SoundBlaster X3" and my buttons don't work anymore.I wouldn't mind the

Hello everybody.

I would like to have a static name for my soundcard instead of the one that Windows assigns, but have no idea if that's possible and how.

For example Speakers (Sound Blaster X3) instead of Speakers (2- Sound Blaster X3)

Since I have some custom buttons in my music player (which is foobar2000) for various sound output modes, I need the name of my souncard(s) to be "static".

Any help appreciated.

Meanwhile something strange happened: Windows renamed my soundcard again to "Speakers (Sound Blaster X3)" without the "2- " in front of the name.
What the ...
I just don't get it, it keeps renaming and renaming and renaming and each time I have to setup my buttons/shortcuts.

Thant's really annoying. Does anyone know how to stop this behavior?

I have noticed that you have NOT had ANY replies, so I thought that I would try and help.

I do NOT know if this is possible, but if it is, it is probably NOT going to be straight forward. One reason that springs to mind is the fact that there will be Registry entries for the Soundcard, which in itself can be difficult to find all of the entries and then amend them in the Registry. Also, anything [ Programs / Apps, etc ] that uses the Soundcard will more than likely have links within them to the current Registry entries.

Someone else may be able to shed some light on it for you.
