Windows 10: Renamed personal Microsoft alias and result was work alias no longer works

Message popped up when entering work email: 'it looks like this account is used with more than one account from Microsoft. Which one would you like to use?' Work or school account created by your IT dept was highlighted, which is correct. I clicked on the link that said rename your personal account. I made the existing email (same as my work account) an alternate alias and chose the option to create a new email account ending in @outlook.com. Then I made that my primary.


Now I am no longer able to access my work Outlook. I went back to the personal account management screen in an effort to change the primary back to my work email but the only option available next to that account now is Remove. Any ideas on what to do?

Hosts File Alias not working with File Share


I can set an alias in the hosts file on a win7 machine and access it just fine but doing the same in Win10 prompts for creds that never work even when entered correctly.
What did win10 change?

hosts file entry:
127.0.0.1 hostname alias

\\ip - works fine
\\hostname -works fine
\\alias - Prompts for creds and creds don't work

I have gone to the extent of fully disabling UAC from reg, same outcome. Network and file sharing is set to password access and not homegroup. Simple file sharing is off.

Something to note. I always disable ipv6 form the adapter but when I ping my hostname it shows the ipv6 loopback. Why is that?
When I ping the alias it returns 127.0.0.1 ipv4 loopback that was entered in the hostname.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Primary Alias Renaming and Windows Phone

It seemed that the problem was with the two steps verification feature which has been launched earlier.

When I stopped the service, the phone synced with the alias it have been using since two years, which is different than the current primary alias. This proves that renaming the account keeps the Windows Phone syncing very well.

 

Microsoft Account alias change

Trying to change the primary alias on my Microsoft account. As per instructions I go to "Add an alias". I choose "Add an existing email..." I insert my newly purchased domain and O365 account email *** Email address is removed for privacy ***. I am rejected with the message "You can't
add a work or school email address as an alias to a personal Microsoft account. Please try another." This is not a school or work alias. It is my my new personal home domain now.
