Windows 10: Renumbering a large batch of files?

How can I renumber not rename! large batches of files? There is a field in music files listed under the heading '#' which could be useful, although I would like to be able to change other properties, too. However, it seems to be very difficult to obtain much more than blindingly obvious information about properties and and how to changing them in individual files. There is a Bulk Rename Utility which is perhaps not as clever as it thinks, nor is it easy to use in spite of its claims. It is, however, genuinely free to use, but it is, as one would expect, only for changing file names plus

Don't use batch files very much but one I find useful is for creating a list of files in a directory.
Just copy the text below into Notepad and save as Filelist.bat

dir /a /-p /o:gen >filelist.txt

When you run it from a folder it will create a Filelist.txt file,in the same folder, that lists all the files in that folder.Useful when you are too lazy to type all the files out yourself.

Batch file to ping network

No, batch files are extremely easy.

A "If" requires three extra steps.

Code is not how much you can put in, but how lite can you make it and still perform the functions.

So
