After clicking on the update to windows 11 in the taskbar, and declining it, settings decided to automatically check for updateds and install all of them without asing me to download or install them. How many times am I going to have to fight with this to unistall them, install the right ones, unistall their software which breaks, reisntall them, and set my settings in them? This is like the 20th time now? This radeon driver is out of date and broken in the fullscreen start menu and the taskbar. Windows reverts to itThis realtek driver locks the speakers, mic, and virtual input devices to 16 bit,

  2. Windows Defender Group Policy Disabeled

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft community.

As you have stated you want to disable the group policy so that you can run windows defender on the computer.

I would like to suggest few troubleshooting steps:

Method 1: Disable group policy from gpedit.msc

    • Press Windows key + R.

    • Type gpedit.msc and click Ok.(it will open Local Group policy editor)

    • Go to Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Windows Defender.

    • In the right pane of
      Windows Defender
in Local Group Policy Editor, double click/tap on the
      Turn off Windows Defender
      policy to edit it.

    • Select (dot) Not Configured or
      Disabled, click/tap on OK,

    • When finished, you can close the Local Group Policy Editor if you like.
If the issue still persist you can follow method 2.

Method 2: Disable group policy from registry.

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow
these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click the following article number to view the
article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756

    • Press Window Key +R.

    • Type regedit and click. (it will open registry)

    • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender

    • Right Click on Window Defender to create a new Dword.

    • Click on New and Select Dword.

    • Type DisableAntiSpyware.

    • Right click on DisableAntiSpyware and click on modify.

    • Set the value to 0 instead of 1.

Hope this information is helpful. If the issue still persists, you can write back to us and we will be glad to assist you further.

Reoccuring problem. Driver updates are turned off in settings and disabled in group policy,...

Win 10 Anniversary, automatic updates & Group Policy Settings

    Hello, I've just installed KB3176929. Now I am running Windows 10 Education v1607, b14393.10.

Almost everything it's fine despite "Windows Update Settings" *Mad.

In the past I've used Local Group Policy Editor to tweak the settings and make Windows notify me when I need some update, without downloading or installing anything.

Now, in gpedit the relevant policy is still correct:

Reoccuring problem. Driver updates are turned off in settings and disabled in group policy,... [IMG]

The problem is that in the Update section, under Settings it shows the following:

Reoccuring problem. Driver updates are turned off in settings and disabled in group policy,... [IMG]

So it's clearly stated that download and installation will be executed without user intervention.
Also Active hours button is also displayed, but I have never had this before Anniversary update.

Before this update my Update Settings screen was similar to this one:

Reoccuring problem. Driver updates are turned off in settings and disabled in group policy,... [IMG]

What I have already tried to get back the previous behavior:
    1. set the policy Configure auto updates to not configured
    2. shut down and power up
    3. set the policy Configure auto updates to enabled & 2 = Notify before...
    4. manually checked for update
    5. reboot

    I did not succeed.

Is this policy still applicable to Win 10 Edu?
    Have you any suggestions?

Many thanks Reoccuring problem. Driver updates are turned off in settings and disabled in group policy,... :)

P.S.: I am wondering if disabling active hours from registry can help or not.
