  1. Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

Hello @Brink, thank you for this useful guide.

I did a repair install last night in order to get rid of a potentially troublesome Windows update (KB3081452). The repair went through fine, but for some bizarre reason the update remained, and in fact 2 additional updates appeared which I didn't even have before the repair (I selected no to updates before the install).

This update doesn't seems manually removable, I'm wondering if you're aware of anything else that I can do to potentially remove this update without losing any data/apps?

  3. Hi, thanks for your message. I can't uninstall it as it says it is required by the system. I suppose a clean install would be needed?

Even with a clean install, the update would eventually just be installed again.

Are you having an issue with the update? The Microsoft article below says, "if you install a language pack after you install this update, you must reinstall this update".

  5. I suspect it's causing problems for some programs but not 100%. I haven't installed any language packs or anything, I've already searched everything related to that update to no avail.

Thanks for your help anyway, I will just live with it for now!

Hi All, A Newbe here with his first post – sorry if it’s abit long winded...
I upgraded my daughters Dell 1545 laptop back in August fromWin7 Home to Win 10 Home and all seemed to go well.
Last Saturday though, when I ran “sfc /scannow” it detectedcorrupt files which couldn’t be repaired.
Ran “dism …..” which also failed as it could’nt find thesource files. Tried both again a few more times to no avail.
Decided then to do the “Repair Install Windows 10 with anIn-place Upgrade” by following Brinks Tutorial.
I burned an install ISO with English (UK) as the languageand started the process off.
However when it came to the part of choosing what to keep, the personal files and apps option was greyed out and there was a message atthe bottom stating
"You can't keepWindows settings, personal files and apps because you've choosen to install Windows10 using a different language to the one you're currently using."
(I then remembered the Note in Brinks tutorial about this)
After some head scratching, I created another ISO with thelanguage set to “English (US) and tried again, this time successfully, so itlooks like the original upgrade from Win 7 to 10 was based on the Win 7 OSbeing set to English (US) for some reason.
Only thing I can think as to why this was the case, was thatthe HD was replaced under warranty and the OS reinstalled by the tech who mayhave possibly set the language to English (US) or not set it to (UK)
The question I have now, is can I do a Clean Install usingthe English (UK) ISO or is this likely to cause Activation issues? Or should I just use the English (US) ISO andset System, Input and Time Zone etc. to UK and avoid any potential Activationproblems?
Sorry if I’ve posted in the wrong place being as thequestion relates to a clean install, but the issue initially arose when doingthe repair, so thought here was best in case anyone else had the same problem.
Thanks for a great site Jandespecially to Mr Brink for all his excellent tutorials and other input.

Hello Greyhound, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

For activation, you just need to make sure that it's the same edition the product key is for.

Hi Brink, Many thanks for your quick reply and welcome message.

That's good news - everything will be the same except for the language change from US to UK.

I'll take an Image of the disc as it currently is (just in case) and then do a clean install.

Real busy over the next few days, so will prob be Fri or Sat before I can get around to it.

I'll let you know how things go.

All the work and time you put into helping others is much appreciated.

    Many Thanks !
