Repairing an OS of another PC by pluging the HDD of it into a working PC

    Hi,

My wife's laptop is giving her the black screen of death, I initially thought that it was the HDD but after removing it and powering on her PC the screen remains dead, I have hooked it up to a projector as a secondary monitor to test if the problem is her laptop screen, but the projector transmitted nothing as well. So I am left to believe that it might be the mother board or another culprit.

But to get to my more recent problem...with all the hard booting during troubleshooting, it seems my wife's HDD has become corrupt, I repaired it to a point where I was able to backup her info, but it remains unstable, I have done integrity test on the HDD which turned out fine. So now I want to repair her OS if possible, otherwise clean install win 10 again. The thing is, with her black screen of death or rather plain dead screen my only option is to connect her HDD to my laptop via an external port USB3 external HDD case and try to repair her OS from within mine.

How would I go about doing this without loosing my own info or compromising my own OS and making it dual bootable, which will make one HDD dependent on the other to run the OS.

She upgraded her OS from win 7 to 10 during the free update period, so I don't know how a clean install via this method will influence that.

    Thanks in advance

    JP

    :)

    Hi Johan,

    It is possible that your
    HDD was unreadable
causing the error message to appear. We recommend that you perform these troubleshooting steps and check if there are any changes:

    • Shutdown
      your
      PC.

    • Unhooked
      the
      HDD
      and
      turn on
      your
      PC.

    • Reconnect
      your
      HDD
      and
      restart
      your
      PC.

If the issue persists, we suggest that you contact your
    laptop/computer's manufacturer
    for further assistance.

Update us on how it goes.

    Regards.

    PC Build Steps

Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??
