Repairing Windows 10 from the RE/PE environment?

I have never had the SFC/DISM commands work successfully from PE/RE by either getting an initialization error or Windows resource protection error. I am trying to find out if there is a way to structure those commands so that they do work successfully in those environments. I'm sure there must be some way of repairing Windows in the RE/PE setting, it's just a manner of finding out the correct command structure. Let's just say it's a drive that now is in the automatic repair loop, so obviously the automatic startup repair function in the recovery environment doesn't work you'd be surprise

    :)

  2. Install Driver on Windows PE Environment

    Hi,

We are trying to install kernel-mode driver to Windows PE, but not able to do so.

We checked using DevManView tool to check driver in windows PE. But we didn't see the Device object created.

We suspect that the Driver Service didn't start.

Given below are the details of the issue:

Driver Details: SCSIAdapter class filter driver. (SdFilter)

    Steps followed:

    • Used DISM to edit the Windows PE image offline. (Inset image below)

    • Manually added the Driver details to the registry. The registry change is visible after reboot

    • Manually added Service (ServicesActive database) to offline image. The registry change is visible after reboot (inset image below)

Can someone please guide how can we add the driver to the Windows PE environment.

PS: The given filter driver is test signed. So, we suspect that later we will face test signed issue but that will be our second step to debug. Right now, not able to get through the first step.

    Thanks and Regards,

Let's just say it's a drive that now is in the automatic repair loop, so obviously the automatic startup repair function in the recovery environment doesn't work (you'd be surprised how many people keep suggesting that...), there's no restore points, tried disabling driver signature enforcement from startup options, can't get into safe mode, etc. No I'm not interested in doing a clean install that's not an option.

Tried "sfc /scannow" "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=drive letter:\ /offwindir=drive letter:\windows" always get a Windows Resource Protection or similar error.

DISM is the one I'm wondering if there's a way to set it up to pull from an image file for the repair. Such as if I have the 22H2 Media Creation Tool on a USB drive, how do you form the DISM command to use the "drive letter:\sources\install.esd" as the source image file or would that even work / is it possible?

I've tried - "DISM /Image:drive letter of local image:\ /cleanup-image /restorehealth /Source:esd:usb drive letter:\sources\install.esd:1 /limitaccess" but that gives me an error as well
