Windows 10: Repeated accents when using international keyboards

I use international keyboard layouts on a daily basis. When using them, I should be able to press an accent key eg [ ´ ] or [ ¨ ] or [ ` ] , then press the letter eg [a] or [e] or , and an accented character should appear on the screen eg á or ë or ù.


When using OneNote, this works fine. However, when using any other program, the accent appears twice, followed by an unaccented character,unless I press the two keys at exactly the same time. This is not ideal - and frustrating because I know a number of other people who have the same laptop and international keyboard layouts work fine for them!


Please help!


I am running Windows 10 Pro v. 20H2 on a Microsoft Surface Book 2.

Problem with US Internation Keyboard Accent

I use a keyboard with a US international layout, but one day all modifier stopped working as they are supposed to. When I press the accent key it writes this `` so the è isn't `e but ```e, I have to press the accent 2 time and then delete the 2 accents
before this with all modifier. I can't solve this problem.

I have a Surface Pro running on Windows 10, and need to turn the keyboard in International - to use accents.

How do I best do that? I have read a few suggestions, and do not understand it.

Keyboard repeat delay and repeat speed

Hi Joseph,

I suggest you to uninstall and reinstall the keyboard driver. Follow the steps to uninstall & reinstall the keyboard driver from device manager.

• 
  Press Windows key + X from the
  Keyboard and click on Device Manager.
  
• 
  In Device Manager, double click on the
  Keyboard.
  
• 
  It will show you the device driver name, select that device and then right click on it.
  
• 
  Click on Uninstall button.
  
• 
  Restart the computer, the drivers will get automatically installed on your Windows 10.
  
• 
  Repeat the same for Mice and other pointing devices.
